they'll notify the family to assure them their loved one wasn't harmed. How is THAT conversation going to go?

Eeeewwwww!
Although I'm a tad confused by this:
The crematorium is back in business and the funeral director said they'll notify the family to assure them their loved one wasn't harmed.
Do they mean the chap they were cremating?

Do they mean the chap they were cremating? Yeah, it would be a shame if he was burned?

they'll notify the family to assure them their loved one wasn't harmed. Wasn't harmed!? First of all, the man is dead. Second, isn't that the whole point of cremation?

I'm actually amazed that with all the chemicals we consume throughout our lives that we are not classified as hazardous waste when we finally pass on.

"notify the family to assure them their loved one wasn't harmed"
Your family may rest assured, the fire extinguisher was applied to the deceased with the utmost respect.

they'll notify the family to assure them their loved one wasn't harmed. Insofar as their mission was to burn this guy at such a high temperature that he was reduced to ash, I fail to see what 'other' harm could be done that would require an apology or assurance there was no harm done. Puzzling. Very Puzzling.
