So, now that everyone from the east coast to hawaii has probably see this weeks episode, I think it's time to post the weekly FR BSG thread. What did you all think?

This is easily my favorite TV series of all time. I am amazed how well the production team continues to pull off such a peerless combination of CGI, live action, and engaging story lines.

I have to rank a scene in tonight's episode as one of the best in the entire science fiction genre: when Galactica jumps into the upper atmosphere, launches its fighters while free falling to provide cover for ground troops, and jumps back out right before hitting the ground. Really fantastic stuff.

Battlestar Galactica has become the benchmark for all other science fiction series and movies.

I haven't seen the episode yet (can I complain to my Congressman about slow illegal downloads?) but I'd think Tom Zarek would be President if Baltar is on the lam.

I was under the impression that the ticket was Baltar/Zarek also, with Zarek as both VP and campaign manager. But I don't know if that was ever made explicit. Could have just been my imagination filling in a blank in the story.

In any case, I shared your impression about Zarek being the VP.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think Zarek was addressed (with some irony) as "Mr. Vice-President" in the previous episode where he & Roslin were about to be executed.

It's a rare thing when a scene makes my breath get all raspy, my eyes slightly water and my heart skip a beat. That was one scene.
Colonel Tigh's moaning out, "Not all of them," was another.

Could be. That had been the impression I had since the election last season. I honestly don't recall that from one of the more recent episodes.

I think that Zarek's being held in a detention center for four months for refusing to cooperate with the Cylons might have resulted in his removal from office.
As for who's President, we'll have to see. I think they'll hold another election after they finish picking up all the pieces of their existence -and weeding out the collaborators.

I just checked. When the Cylons are loading people into the trucks to take them out of town, they shove Zarek in next to Roslin and she says "Need a lift, Mr. Vice-President?"

That certainly makes a lot of sense. In any case, that still doesn't really legitimize Roslin walking in and taking over Colonial One.

I think you are right and they will have to deal with reforming the civilian government soon.

Actually, I think part of the escape plan was for all of the people to get to the ships that they arrived in. This way, there'd be fewer overcrowding issues during their hurried rush to depart New Caprica.
Laura has been on that ship for the entire run of the series. It really is her ship.

When this ep comes out on DVD, I'll be cranking the surround sound speakers when Galactica jumps three hundred feet above the ground.

Well, Baltar has been living and working there for a year. And leaving on the ship is one thing - she is clearly seen taking up shop at the desk. Leaving in that ship is one thing, but re-assuming the presidency is another. I got the impression she was re-assuming the presidency.

Have to tune in next week to find out!

Well, she did try to steal an election last year, so I guess pulling an 'Al Haig' shouldn't be that surprising. :)
