It's Time for Justice: Drop the charges vs. Duke lacrosse players
The Mercury News ^ | October 16, 2006 | Jason Whitlock

Posted on 10/18/2006 2:45:47 PM PDT by zaxxon

The charges against the Duke lacrosse players should be dropped immediately, and the people demanding the dismissal the loudest and most forcefully should be the very people who have made a living allegedly fighting against racial injustice.

I've said this before, but it's worth saying again: Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton should be in Durham, N.C., today, promising civil disobedience until the charges are dropped and prosecutor Mike Nifong resigns.

Ed Bradley and "60 Minutes" should never be mistaken for Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court. Bradley is just a TV reporter and "60 Minutes" is just a TV show, but you couldn't help but be moved by the story they aired Sunday night about the Duke lacrosse rape allegations.

The three accused players gave their first interviews, and two of them claimed they had airtight, documented alibis. The accuser's one-night sidekick, Kim Roberts, seems to have settled on telling the truth rather than trying to spin the story for fame or money. She contradicted several of the statements the accuser gave to police.

If he were a Repub, he would have resigned or been forced out a long time ago, even if he was completely innocent.

OT (but of peripheral interest):

NBC Universal to Slash Costs In News, Prime-Time Programs (MSNBC relocating)

Operations for the cable-news channel MSNBC in Secaucus, N.J., will be shuttered and moved to Rockefeller Center in Manhattan and another facility in New Jersey.

Looks like Dan Abrams is going to have a longer commute.

Super Sleuths

The super sleuths at Talk Left have deduced that defendant Seligman must be suspect Adam. Through a combination of creative TIVO-ing and piecing together the accuser’s police statements from April 4 and April 6, they have also revealed that the accuser, in her written statement to police gives four names for her three attackers:

"The boys hit and kicked me. Matt grabbed me and looked and me and said sweetheart you can‘t leave. He grabbed the back of my neck and said I‘m going to kill you (BLANK) (BLANK) if you don‘t shut up. They started kicking me in my behind and my back. Matt hit me in the face while Dan and Brett kicked me."

"I heard Nikki on the other side of the door, and when Adam opened the door she rushed in and helped Adam to get me dressed. They dragged me out to the car because my legs couldn't move. Nikki said, "What happened girl, did they hurt you," I said yes, and she said that she would get help for me."

"She wanted to take me to Raleigh and drop me off. But I told [name redacted] to take me home. She said that she would call the police. She took me to the Kroger on Hillsborough Rd. to call the police. She tried to get me out of the car before the police arrived, but I was afraid to get out. When the police came, she pulled me back into the car, and the police took me to the hospital from Kroger parking lot."

"7:27 p.m.: I want to add that Adam ejaculated in my mouth and I spit it out onto the floor, part of it fell onto the floor after he pulled his [redacted]" Talk Left

* They are even counting bathroom wall tiles...

* Sleuth this- why did Leary and Cheek meet with the DA early in March BEFORE the party occurred?

* How many Nifongs are there on the Riverside HS lacrosse team?

"How many Nifongs are there on the Riverside HS lacrosse team?"

I did a post on this way back. To all appearances they are Mike Nifong's nephews. The extended Nifong family appears to attend Duke Memorial Methodist Church.

"She said because she's a black woman, the odds are already against her as it is, I'm not going to make it worse for her,"

And blacks wonder why crime rates in their neighborhoods are so high... They are continuosly preyed upon by "their own people"....

So that must be Adam / RS in the blue shirt helping her into Kim's car at 12:41? hmmmm....

You gotta give the man credit.. He flipped w/o all the usual "yeah buts" associated with many of the other conversions we've seen...

I respect that...

I've heard that too. 60 Minutes still hasn't put anything up about this weeks show. We can only hope.

"By remaining silent about this obvious miscarriage of justice, black leadership looks as racist and cowardly as it paints white people who ignore obvious mistreatment of blacks. ...

Standing up for Seligmann, Finnerty and Evans would be standing up against injustice, and what we're learning is that injustice recognizes opportunity more than color. In America, there is more opportunity for injustice to visit poor people of color. Their best defense is standing against all injustice, regardless of race."

It's the whole point of all I've tried to say to ALL AMERICANS OF ALL RACES, CREEDS AND ETHNIC GROUPS. It wasn't just about what happened to us -- what happened to us happened to us all. It demeans and endangers us all.

"You follow?"

[snip]

black activists (right) - who have made it a badge of racial pride to insist that there shall be “no justice, no peace” unless these presumed (and evidently) innocent white men are found guilty.

[snip]

That's a perfect description of the jury upon which Mike Nifong is counting.

The Durham DA interviewed by MSNBC:

"The allegation that I've heard that this is all some kind of a setup

is quite an elaborate allegation, and I haven't heard any convincing

circumstances being discussed about not only who would do such

a thing, but why such an elaborate plan would have been discussed.

And whether or not the people that are supposedly involved were

even capable of such an elaborate deception,....."

* Seven months later, maybe there is now more to 'discuss'.

WHO would be capable of such an 'elaborate deception'?

Here is where the uncanny similarity of the situations between us and Duke ends. I knew at the time and we know now we would have a fair and impartial jury in the County of St. Louis. I do not believe that the Duke boys will be afforded that comfort.

My last and final concern is that they obtain a fair and impartial jury (whether it is of their peers may be impossible). There are remedies if they do not, however, I will then say unending prayers for their families that they are strong enough and have the financial resources to obtain justice. It really comes down to how much justice you can pay for (don't flame me Jezzie).

Okay, who was sitting in on our interview with the School Board? It was supposed to be private. ;-)
