Well this is the live thread for Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica.. Basically for people who lives in the Eastern and Central times zones. There will be another thread for the Western Time Zone...

Heck, if I wanted I could say that Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory, Dr. Strangelove, and Full Metal Jacket are all anti-Bush if I abstracted to the same degree as many FReepers commonly do.

Bush didn't come along until 2001. This sounds like a bit of a straw man.

Also, the wimpy President Baltar, is going to get his due..   I may be way off base on this, but it seemed to me they went overboard showing how contemptable Baltar is. The smells to me like a set-up for redemption. I'm really wondering if we're going to see a heroic Baltar later this season.

  Of course, I also saw in the previews a scene of Tricia Helfer trying to convince Baltar he's a Cylon, so I may be completely wrong. Still, I hope not - it could be an interesting plot, and a hopeful one, that even the worst among them can redeem themselves.

Given enough itme, the toasters will fall part on their own as a society - you're already seeing a lot of dissent among just the individual model lines - you have three different lines that are in love with humans (or obsessed with them if you prefer), you've had three lines that have either killed members of other lines, or has been killed by members of other lines.

I think we are headed for a Cylon civil war, and then people will complain that Moore is ripping off the American Civil War ;-), or people will be saying that it parallels Iraq, with Shiite/Sunni conflicts.

Regardless, it will be a good story, and it's interesting that it's getting into territory that Phillip K. Dick covered with his Bladerunner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, as well as the stuff on Star Trek about what makes one human or sentient.

i agree. i really find distasteful the view that "insurgents" are the good guys. that makes the USA the3 bad guys in Iraq, the point of the show writers is obvious, and objectionable.

Well, taped it Sunday Morning and watched it Sunday night before bed.
HIGHLY disturbing. Intense. Dread. Left me wanting more.
They did what they intended to do with this, and it worked.

I forsee Tigh ripping an eye out of a model of a Doral model with his bare hands and (good) Boomer assisting Doc Cottle in installing it into Tigh.

It would be fitting.

We are going to see a lot of dark things this year on BSG....

And THAT is the mark of excellent writing....
It can be seen both ways....

BSG Season One was the best sci-fi on television. Season Two? The best show on television---period.

At only two episodes in, Season Three is shaping up to be superior to both previous seasons.

Incredible writing staff---without parallel in current television.

Next week looks better. Get back to space battles.

No offense intended, but at this point I would be happy to never see another dogfight for the run of the series.

Battlestar Galactica is the most compelling, most adult drama I've seen in years. If I want space battles, I'll turn on my PS2.

Don't forget, Cylons say grace at the table, using these words: "Heavenly Father, we thank you for the bounty we are about to receive." I just caught that on re-watching it. Bastards.

What makes the Cylons so effective as villains is that they are so familiar. They look like we do, they philosophize like we do, they go to great pains to rationalize their actions like we do. And yes, they even pray like we do.

Tin-Plated robot soldiers can be scary; but the Cylons are so much more frightening: they are what we could become with just a little power and purity of purpose.

When the Dean Stockwell Cylon was talkiong about instilling fear to convert humans, and executing them at random to make them fear the Cyclons, he could have said "Allah" and it would not have seemed out of place at all.

Note that Stockwell's goal wasn't converting the humans to the Cylon God. He was talking about imposing order.

To that effect, he counseled rounding up and excecuting insurgents, and failing that, exacting reprisals against the population as a whole.

That sounds eerily familiar to me.

When cylons capture prisoners, do they treat them like we do, or like Muslims do?

That's a very interesting question, isn't it?

I then thought to myself, "wouldnt i be doing the same thing if the facists or islamofacists occupied America?"

I've been wondering the same things since 2003.
