I dont buy it. I think it is a ruse. She knows from being a prisoner at the farm, that the cylons would do anything to get their way. She knows they injured the child. I expect Thrace to kill the child herself. I will be very surprised if she actually does bond with the little toaster.

The show has gone in a different direction with the humans under occupation. In prior seasons the cylons were in the middle of a debate about their own "humanity" and you could see the conflicts arising in their ranks about killing humans versus trying to be like them. Of course they eradicated 99.995% of the human race before coming to that point but that's a different matter.

The what?

It's pretty clear the Cylons are a tad fascistic ~ and are very involved in only one god who is actually a gigantic robot coordinating machine.

Sounds like the Islamofascists to me.

The Colonials are undoubtedly into a God with at least three natures, and they refer to Them as "gods".

Except for the fact Jesus spent his time on Earth, these folks could be Christian ~ they simply need enlightenment.

Yeah, I thought of that too. Wouldn't be beyond them.

There are, I think, more allusions to Cylons as America in Iraq, than allusions to Cylons as Islamofascists. For myself, I think our viewing of plot points alluding to the Cylons as Islamofascists is accidental, due to the writers considering the Americans and Booosh as fascists.

It may be well done, but so far this season of "Battlestar Iraq" is annoying the hell out of me for bringing in this not-terribly-well-disguised political crapola.

Two hours went by like half an hour. That's always a good sign.

Nah, the Colonials are New Agers, complete with their Zodiac colonies.

Muslims are monotheists too.

While Christianity is monotheistic as well, the civilized world is not and is more accurately represented by the polytheistic BSG human society. When you consider the civilized world as a whole, Christianity is only part of it; throw in the Bhuddists, Jews, Taoists, Hindus, etc., and as a whole you have a human civilization that does collectively worship many gods.

There is a little bit of Judeo-Christian flavor to the cylons' monotheism, but it is tops one part in a thousand. The essence of the cylons, their goals, their beliefs, and their methods, these all are Islamic in nature. You can see this clearly in what happens to the "moderate cylons". The cylons are all about advancing their goals by force and deception, which is EXACTLY what Islam is about.

I agree that it is possible to infer an anti-Iraq war slant here, but it easily possible to see it differently with other historical analogies.

For anyone who has seen a WWII movie, you could say that the Cylons are the Nazis and the humans are the Resistance. The humans are not attacking civilian non-combattants, and our troops are not rounding up truckloads of civilians to execute them.

They had 12 colonies ~ if they'd had 17 colonies they'd had a different Zodiac.

Remember, Jesus didn't get around to these guys yet ~ they are NOT in the far future ~ they are our contemporaries.

I'd still bet there's a lot more "An Inconvenient Truth" in Kobol lore than "E Pleb Neesta".

The leader of the humans is willing to store arms in a temple that the occupiers have respected as a place of religion. He is also willing to wage war near the sick and the injured and willing to send men off to commit suicide in battle.

There is a very clear Islamic analogue to that - this is the Islamic treatment of "dhimmis" who have submitted (or been forced to submit) to Islam. Even the "nice" cylons' approach was not "live and let live", it was submit to us because we know what's best for you, combined with a murderous religious fanaticism.

There aren't too many things they could do to be more clear about it, aside from calling the cylons' god "Allah".

I think you guys are trying to draw more direct and complete paralells to our life and times than are offered by the TV series.

And I don't think you'll find Muslims calling Allah their "Heavenly Father," nor speaking much of salvation from sin by the Word of God and the way of love.

From what the show has revealed of it so far, it's closer to Isaiah.

Yes but the show is being done against the backdrop of the Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts. That's what makes it ambiguous....

They got better rides than we do for being contemporary. Unless... some natural disaster almost wiped out the 13th colony of Kobol on Earth. Like maybe a catastrophic flood that submerged it. And the Antediluvian ragtag fleet of rafts dispersed around the globe with the seeds of humanity. Something like that.

These folks have simply carried on the ancient Indo-European theological traditions ~

You'll notice they have no Buddhists ~ which means that the fundamental Hinduism in the background of the common origin the Colonials have with Earthlings also did not have any sort of reform.

However, they seem to have "built" the Cylons who had their own Enlightenment which involved coming up with a unitary God.

Eventually Jesus comes to both.
