CBS) BELLFLOWER, Calif. An injured 6-year-old German shepherd mix walked himself into a hospital emergency room after apparently being struck by a car, according to animal control officials.
Buddy the dog limped into emergency at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Bellflower Wednesday and laid down in the waiting area at about 1 p.m., security officer Daniel Carrillo told the Whittier Daily News.
Hospital officials called the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority in Downey, and agency officials picked up Buddy and brought him to the shelter for treatment of a fractured leg, Capt. Aaron Reyes, SEAACA's director of operations.
"We don't know where he got hit by a car, but we're happy he chose the right place to get help," Reyes said.
Through an identifying microchip implanted in Buddy's skin, SEAACA officials were able to locate his owner, who adopted him from the animal shelter about five years ago, Reyes told the newspaper.
Fabian Ortega, Buddy's owner, owns a construction equipment rental business about a block from the hospital, according to the paper.
Ortega said he had been scouring the area for his dog since he ran away about two weeks ago from the yard of the business while the fence was being repaired.

awwwwwwwww
I hope he is going to be okay.
I've seen Buddy and his story on TV several times the past two days and just get a big grin on my face each time.
Atta boy, Buddy!
"Man Walks to Animal Clinic After Being Hit By Car" - it could happen.
Good dog!
Wouldn't the chip have helped the man find his dog? If not, what's the point of the chip?
Who is this dog? Brian from "Family Guy?" How would he know where the ER is?
*kiss on the brow for Buddy*
Very cool.
I wonder if it made Katie Couric's news, today.
Well, rest assurred if the dog came here illegally we would be obligated to pay for his care.
WOOF!
Don't clobber me for this ... but, Buddy is an ambulance-chaser.
Somebody has to find the dog first, then they have to be equipped with the right kind of scanner. It did work out right, once he put his paw down and refused to budge from the ER until he got waited on!
Yeah, but he didn't have his chip implanted, so nobody knew who he was.

A dog walked into our Company's stores a couple of years ago and we called the dog catcher. He turned up in his van and found the chip on the dog and they have one of those scanners in the van and immediately it showed the owner lived just round the corner.
He rang him and he turned up within about 10 minutes to reclaim his dog and of course get a lecture from the dog catcher on making his garden secure so that the dog cannot get out in future.
If and when I get another dog I will certainly get one of those chips.
Good deal. I love to hear happy ending stories about lost pups.
There must be millions of chips implanted by now, so that it's common. I haven't had a dog since they've started doing it, but I certainly would if I get another one.
"The good news, sir, is that we can set your leg. The bad news is that state law requires you to be neutered."
