NEW YORK - A middle school math teacher was arrested on charges he raped a 14-year-old student when she went to his home for tutoring, police said Wednesday.
Horace Bedeau, a teacher at Intermediate School 392 in Brooklyn, was charged with second-degree rape and criminal sexual acts for engaging in sexual encounters with the student in his kitchen and his son's bedroom in August 2006, according to the city schools' commissioner of investigation.
Another student, a boy, was in the apartment at the time but was separated from Bedeau and the 14-year-old girl, city officials said.
Bedeau's lawyer, Donald Vogelman, said he was innocent.
"My understanding is they did know each other, but he denies having sexual intercourse with her," Vogelman said.
Bedeau, 50, was reassigned to administrative duty during the investigation. The Department of Education said it was outraged and was seeking to fire him.
Students and neighbors were shocked at the charges.
"He was a good teacher," his former student Ebony Paschall said. "He did everything right. He never came on to any student when I saw him."
Bedeau was arraigned on Wednesday night and was being held on $10,000 bail. He could face seven years in prison on each of the charges if convicted.
And a teenage girl would NEVER lie about something like this. Uh huh...
That was my reaction as well. I would never allow my self to be in such a compromised situation. Not in today’s world.
Let's see. She was raped in August and now, two months later, he's being charged? Good luck finding that DNA.
Why would she wait two months? Didn't the boy hear her screams? Didn't the boy suspect something at the time?
Hold on now: according to the official DNC talking points this week, shouldn't even the HINT of this accusation be reason enough for him to be fired???

Its a mistake to invite kids to your home, unless other adults are present, preferably other teachers or parents.
In one case I know of, the teacher was the "cool" teacher, who hung with the kids like they were his posse, the kids loved him, the girls idolized him. On a picnic, some horseplay went a little over the line, the girl then felt embarrassed and reported it and the teacher lost his career.
In another case, an adult social worker made a teen girl mad by enforcing curfew on her boyfriend who was in a half-way house situation. The two of them accused him of improper advances to get back at him. He was charged with a crime. When the reality sunk in with them as to how serious a problem the guy was in, they both went in and confessed they had made it up. The charges against him were dropped, but his license to operate the half-way house was not returned and he lost his income, and the other residents of the halfway house were forced out as a result.
A younger teacher has to be very careful, the girls can develop a crush on him very easily, and if his head is not screwed on tight its easy to let it go to your head. And even if you are innocent, its easy for the kid to misinterpret something, its easy for other witnesses to assume the worst even if you are entirely innocent.
The better thing is to maintain a professional distance from students, have other adults on hand when the occasion requires that you mix with them informally. And this teacher if 50 years old, he really should know better, whether he's innocent or not.

I don't know how many times I've seen male freepers post about those female rapists saying "why didn't anything like that happent to ME when I was 14?"
Maybe the male judges are thinking the same thing.
I sincerely think one of the reasons they did not prosecute that gorgeous blonde teacher was that if they'd gotten the teenager on the stand to testify, he'd probably still be giggling. Contrary to popular opinion, he was probably NOT stunted in his growth by having sex with her. He'll be a celebrity for the rest of his life.
I remember seeing him, his mistress and some other folks hanging upside down at a gas station. I thought they had been shot. Was there something else?

kids are getting savvy. I say this guy is innocent until proven guilty.
Exactly the same scenario with former Kentucky basketball star and Orlando Magic commentator in Orlando. 14 year old girl, he was giving "basketball lessons", but somehow ended up in the girl's room, alone with her and the door locked.
There was even another person present in the house, the girl's grandmother, as I recall.
He was aquitted but ruined for life.
