Lakeville (Minn) teen allowed back at high school football games

The saga of a Lakeville South High School student banned from home football games took another turn Wednesday -- he'll get to sit in the stands with his friends during football games after all.

Donovan Sullivan was kicked out of the stadium two weeks ago for holding up a sign supporting the opposing team. Lakeville south was playing Lakeville North. He said he was bored with the game and did it as a joke. The dean personally removed Sullivan from the game.

The school initially told the student that because of what he did, he would no longer be able to attend football games.

Folks, it must be a slow news day in Minnesota.

This is about the best I can come up.

Seriously, you don't want me to post a story about Mayors RT Rybak and Chris Coleman patting themselves on the back over the 2008 GOP convention - do you?!

Comments or opinions - anyone?

Make the dean and any other school officials who were involved in this each write 1000 lines of "The First Amendment is still in effect" and 1000 lines of "Football is just a game", and deliver their assignments to this teenager on their knees at a special assembly in front of the whole school.

In my day, at my high school, this would have never made news. The guy woulda got a good old fashioned buttkickin by someone in the hall the next day.

They more than likely kicked him out because he was obviously provoking people through his mischief and was going to incite a fight.

Maybe, but banning him from future games suggests that would not have been the primary reason. The first amendment is under attack. Long live the 2nd.

Nope. It was completely harmless and all in fun. The school official was in the wrong, all the way.

All the Dean had to do was mention it to the football team.

Athletes would give him a choice of displayinig the sign outside his body or inside.

If some attendees at a game react to a sign they don't like by committing assault, the proper reponse is to have THOSE people arrested and criminally charged -- not to have a government agency impose a penalty on a citizen who did nothing wrong and had a First Amendment right to make whatever statement was on the sign.

The dean personally removed Sullivan from the game.

Sounds to me like someone needs a life.
