Savarin DeJesus spent her Friday night downing gin and smoking cigarettes before returning to the homeless shelter where she and her 4-month old baby girl lived.
The 18-year-old woman went to sleep with the baby at her side, but soon started throwing up in a bucket next to her bed filled with cleaning solution and water.
It ended up costing the baby her life: The infant fell into a puke-filled bucket and died.
DeJesus was charged with criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a child.

But that would infringe on her right to have more kids in order to increase her welfare check.
Fatherless America. Now, a rotten harvest. No surprise. Wake up, America!
Where was New Yorks Child services? Who took care of the baby while she was out. More than likely she traded sex for booze. Today if a parent spanks a child the child services craphads wnat to take their kid, yet they let this drunken slut drag hers around to homeless shelters and come back stinking drunk. Another thing, Are we sure she didnt intentionally drown this child. I mean what are the odds of a baby falling out of bed into a puke bucket face down and not knocking the bucket over,. I would say about a hundred to one.
THIS is why society instituted marriage and all religions condemn sex outside of a stable marriage of man and woman. (almost all religions).
This thing with no self esteem doesn't even care about her baby.
what a horrible, horrible way for that child to die. Teen, self-centered mother needs to go to jail.
Baby Ping.
somebody splain how a 4 month old baby "falls' into a bucket ? I read the story....it's no clearer in the details...
"He said his client, from Staten Island, was staying at the shelter to be closer to the baby's father, who lived in the area."
The father's a real winner, too, it appears.
When are we as a society going to start teaching our children that they are gifts? Especially when our children are HAVING children?
Please FReepmail me if you would like to be added to, or removed from, the Pro-Life/Pro-Baby ping list...
Thanks for the ping cgk. Guess I heard, on local radio, about the poor baby falling into the bucket, not that it happened at a homeless shelter.
Stupid me, I'd thought they would have a crib for the baby to sleep in. Guess they had to use the money for something else. /s
BTW, glad your back, haven't had a chance to tell you.
It is so clear to us and yet the liberals are blind to the failure of their policies.
So much here...
If it hadn't been for the drinking, if she had just had a stomach virus, I would consider this a horrible accident rather than child endangerment. However, being drunk while in charge of a child is never acceptable and the child would be alive if she hadn't been drinking.
I have little doubt that by the time this is over, she will have become the "real victim" in all of this.
Sadly, if they enforced those rules they wouldn't get people to come to the shelters. The bottom line is there are two kinds of homeless people:
1. People who choose to be homeless. Some of them are choosing to remain addicted to drugs or alcohol rather than directly choosing homelessness, but it is really the same thing in the end.
2. People who are mentally ill and should be in treatment instead of a shelter, but have been betrayed by our "compassionate" society that lets the ACLU types decide mental health issues.
Of course, if you did enforce those rules a whole lot of the folks in group one would decide to get rehabbed/start working, and that might cost some social workers their jobs.
I'm not dsure exactly how many people use my city's homelss shelter, but my city of 26,000 has three people who are chronically homeless. All three are mentally unstable, two profoundly so. The other one could probably hold down a job, but prefers to be homeless. He even goes to Mass every Sunday.
Sadly, I think you're right. Socialists can always point to any evil behavior on the part of a poor person and claim they were forced into it by our terrible society.
That is the way it goes with these type people.
They have enough money to buy dope, alcohol, and cigarettes.
The Democrats like to steal from us to provide their food, medicine, and shelter and to support the kids they have every 9 months.
