China: Lazy Elevator Attendant
Daily China ^ | 09/23/06

An elevator attendant on duty in China. The elevator must be a big one, like a cargo elevator. You see a long stick on the front side of the right wall next to button panel. It is used by the attendant to poke at the buttons without standing up from the chair.

But the job has its ups and downs, that's for sure.

The poke stick needs to be longer so she does not have to bend forward to push the buttons. Better yet, she really needs a remote control unit!

Don't think so.

The stick is too short and the buttons are at a 90 deg angle to the direction she is facing. She could not push the buttons with that stick from that chair.

"She must live inside the elevator.:)"

I suspect that is the case. Notice her bath towels hanging on the back of the chair?

Years ago, as part of the office's "downtown run", I'd regularly go an old downtown Los Angeles bank building that housed their International Department...

There were two side-by-side elevators with operators....but the funny thing is, both elevators were operated by twin Hispanic guys, who'd always dress alike; it flipped newcomers out!
