"Not gender per se. Threat. 100lb women pose little threat of coercive action of any kind.
If you want to fight for the femninist ideal of uniform sentencing, be my guest."
Your defense doesn't hold water.
Patch was not charged with nor convicted of a crime in which physical threats or coercion was an element.
So you think that it is "feminist" to believe in equal justice in sentencing? Well then, I think I'll have to join the Founders of our Country as "feminists".

Guys are different. It's a biological thing. Get over it. I'd say it is a societal thing. It's that whole virgin thing -- which nowdays is mostly illusion.

I think you'd be surprised at the ill intention any gender can harbor in this kind of situation. It's not as easy or as 'Bambi Does Bombay' as people think.
But bottom line, equal protection is just that, equal. Making adjustments in the laws for looks, genders, horniness etc only makes the rule of law useless.
'Sides, in this case, if it was a 'real' relationship, then all she had to do was wait for a year and he'd be fair game.

I think the whole 'female virgin' thing is simply men don't want competition, or worse,
comparisons made between them and those who preceeded them.

That's only assuming he was out of school in a year.

Not pedophilia with a 17 year old. yah, and traffic laws that refer to automobiles can be ignored by people driving trucks.
Don't be obtuse, you know very well statutes in most states don't use separate terms for pederasty and pedophilia. The court system is a mess, but semantic technicalities on that level won't fly. Well, not out here in fly-over country.

When the 17 year old was asked by a friend if he was having sex with the teacher, he said, "No, I'm on the Patch."

Exactly....
The issue being about authority and personal responsibility.
IF they really, REALLY wanted to be together, there were acceptable was it could be done that wouldn't break the law (granted, it would mean her leaving her family) but waiting a period of time, her changing jobs etc would have made it
OK and not an issue.

"I doubt you will find any man on this board (at least one who is honest with himself) who wouldn't have jumped at the opportunity when he was 17"
You'd be wrong. I was sexually active at 17, and one time I was approached by a married woman in her late 20's. She was very attractive. I was shocked by that, and turned her down flat. That doesn't mean that I wasn't having lots of fun with the girls in my high school. I just wasn't attracted to women of her age.
Such stuff happens a lot more frequently that you'd think. A lot of 17 year old kids would say no to a late 20's woman. Heck, my mom was only 37 when I was 17.
