Boy mauled by pit bulls

Police say the boy who was attacked by pit bull dogs Thursday night in northeast Charlotte was seriously hurt but did not suffer life-threatening wounds.
The boy, who police say was 7 years olds, was playing with his brother about 7 p.m. in a neighbor's yard on Eastway Drive. The two boys told police that the dogs escaped from a fenced-in yard, climbing through a hole in the fence.
Witnesses say two of the dogs attacked the boys. A man passing by jumped into the pack of dogs and chased them away from the boy.
Police responded and were forced to shoot and kill one of the pit bulls which had become extremely aggressive.
The other three dogs were captured by the police Animal Control Unit.
Police Sgt. Carl Bannerman told WCNC-TV, the Observer's news partner, that the injured boy "lost a lot of blood."
According to WCNC, Bannerman also said it appeared as if the dog's owner had made sure the animals had current rabies vaccinations and a permit to own four or more pit bulls, which is required by city law.
The dog's owner told police he does not want the dogs back, so they likely will be euthanized.
And the world would go on.
Pakistan.
If someone's dog had done that to mine, I would have KILLED the dog and sued the damned owner for everything frickin' he had.
hey, there's plenty of pit bulls to go around.
Hero alert. This fellow deserves a medal and got a bare mention in the story. What would we be reading if he hadn't?
>>>I've worked dog bite claims too. Always interesting to find out the dog's name. I had three in a row named 'Rambo'.>>>
LOL!! Same here. Not Rambo, but VanDam. Yes, the Rott's name was VanDam.
Hmm-mm. If they could be confined to the areas where "insurgents" stay and away from innocent people, that might just be the secret weapon that will save civilization after all. Seems I vaguely remember someone somewhere sometime saying that pit bulls were wonderful and would one day save civilization, or something like that.
Better yet, do all three today.
"Question for pit-bull defenders.
WHY- when there are countless other breeds of dogs, big and small- choose a breed with such a bad rep, and one that necessitates constant defense and expense?
Is it like people who adopt problem children, you think you can reform them, change them? Or is it the bad/fearsome/intimidating rep that appeals?"
Are you out of your mind to make such a comparison? You are equating pit bulls with kids from bad homes and foster children.
Please tell me you didn't breed and that the damage stops with you.
Have them guard the Mexican border...
Almost forgot, yes, I have shot two and feel no remorse. Have enough ground that they can be buried and never found.
Good grief- I was searching for an analogy, and chose a bad one! Had my doubts when I typed it.
Kids from bad homes and foster children CAN be a real challenge to handle. I'm not saying it's their fault! And human children CAN be helped to change- pit bulls nature cannot be, IMO.
I should have compared pit bull owners to those who think they can reform violent criminals- how's that? I'm trying to find a comparison in mentality that makes people CHOOSE a 'problem' breed when there are so many dogs that don't have the bad rep.
I think the 'danger factor' is WHY most want pit bulls. Makes them look like the 'lion tamers'. The macho factor- having Godzilla in your yard is more impressive than having Lassie.
You need to report it to police or animal control so there is a history out there on this dog.
Dog of peace ping

Friends Holding Fundraiser for Toddler Attacked by Pit Bull

People from around the community will come together this weekend to help two-year-old Amaya Hess. The little girl was attacked by a pit bull in May and has needed nine surgeries since then.
Organizers are hoping a weekend fundraiser will help with Amaya's bills. The little girl was in a coma for 84 days. Her mom says she is strong and doing well now, even riding a tricycle.
But she is still in the hospital Friday morning, so friends of the family are hoping a fishing fundraiser will help.
Jennifer, James, and five-year-old Kyle are organizing a fish shootout at the main lake at the Westlake Apartments. The goal is to have 100 people show up, each paying $20 to enter. People will fish much of the day Saturday and whoever has the most weight in fish wins.
Big surprise. I'm waiting to hear about someone mauled by a French Poodle.
Did you call the cops?
Thanks for the heads up about the fishing tourney. I might not be able to make it, but I'd like to register just in case. I emailed the reporter to ask where I might send the entry fee.
That way, the only pitbulls left would belong to people who had control of them. No need to ban the dogs or make them extinct.
