"Question for pit-bull defenders.
WHY- when there are countless other breeds of dogs, big and small- choose a breed with such a bad rep, and one that necessitates constant defense and expense?

Is it like people who adopt problem children, you think you can reform them, change them? Or is it the bad/fearsome/intimidating rep that appeals?"

Are you out of your mind to make such a comparison? You are equating pit bulls with kids from bad homes and foster children.

Please tell me you didn't breed and that the damage stops with you.

Good grief- I was searching for an analogy, and chose a bad one! Had my doubts when I typed it.
Kids from bad homes and foster children CAN be a real challenge to handle. I'm not saying it's their fault! And human children CAN be helped to change- pit bulls nature cannot be, IMO.

I should have compared pit bull owners to those who think they can reform violent criminals- how's that? I'm trying to find a comparison in mentality that makes people CHOOSE a 'problem' breed when there are so many dogs that don't have the bad rep.

I think the 'danger factor' is WHY most want pit bulls. Makes them look like the 'lion tamers'. The macho factor- having Godzilla in your yard is more impressive than having Lassie.
