College Football - Live Thread - Week Three
ESPN.com Scoreboard ^ | Thursday September 14th to Saturday September 16th 2006

Week Three – College Football

Week Two gave everyone the earliest #1 vs. #2 showdown in modern college football history. The game, however, turned out to not really live up to the hype. This week we are treated to SEVERAL big games, some of which are in conference in the SEC, and a historically significant rivalry renews in South Bend.

As always, all rankings are from the ESPN.com Scoreboard page. I will also list any games of interest (FReepmail me if you want your team included and I will include them from here on out) and any other games listed in my Yahoo league.

GAME of the WEEK

Saturday, September 16th, 2006 – 3:30 PM on CBS

(6) LSU at (3) Auburn (-3.5)

This is going to be a fun game to watch I think. We have Auburn which has been the odds-on favorite to win the SEC this year against a very good and very fast LSU team that is looking to spoil the Auburn season AND put itself into the national spotlight. Both teams feature strong defenses, good running games and good coaching. Fewest mistakes wins this game. I’m going with the home team.

Auburn 16 – LSU 13

Thursday September 14th, 2006 (ESPN Thursday Night Game)

Maryland at (5) West Virginia (-17)

West Virginia gets one of their rivalry games out of the way early. This should be a decent test for a team that hasn’t beaten a BCS School yet.

It’s not in the pick’em league, but I’ll give a pick anyway.

WVU 42 – Maryland 13

Saturday September 16th 2006 (in ranking order)

Cincinnati at (1) Ohio State (-30)

Ohio State 45 – Cincinnati 7

(11) Michigan at (2) Notre Dame (-6)

Notre Dame 27 – Michigan 20

(19) Nebraska at (4) USC (-19)

USC 42 – Nebraska 20

(7) Florida (-3.5) at (13) Tennessee

Florida 17 – Tennessee 9

(8) Texas (-31) at Rice

Texas 55 – Rice 6

Clemson at (9) Florida State (-4.5)

FSU 24 – Clemson 16

UAB at (10) UGA (-17)

UGA 35 – UAB 10

(17) Miami at (12) Louisville (-4.5)

Miami 22 – Louisville 20****UPSET ALERT

Duke at (14) Virginia Tech (-35)

VT 45 – Duke 3

(15) Oklahoma at (18) Oregon (-4.5)

Oregon 28 – Oklahoma 20

Iowa State at (16) Iowa (-13.5)

Iowa 32 – Iowa St. 10

(24) Texas Tech (-1) at (20) TCU

Texas Tech 45 – TCU 39

Portland St. at (21) California (NL)

Cal 58 – Portland St. 10

(22) Arizona St. (-10) at Colorado

ASU 38 – Colorado 7

BYU at (23) Boston College(-7)

BC 21 – BYU 19 ****UPSET ALERT

Youngstown St. at (25) Penn State (NL)

Penn State 52 – Y’Town St 6

38-4 Straight UP
32-10 Against the Spread

As bad as those calls were, OU's defense did give up 2 TDs in less than a minute. And they still had a chance to win it with a FG but that was blocked. The bad officiating wasn't the only reason OU lost that game.

You say this:

Scum-sucking lying, cheating, thieving Coastie refs!!!!!!!!

And then I tell you that it was a Big 12 crew, so that means I hate the Sooners? Hardly. Get your damned facts straight.

Yes they do. It's how they determine who works the bowl games.

You also had the clock problems for about 3-4 minutes in the early 4th quarter when OU had the lead, and the pass interference call on the tipped pass. That's an awful lot for OU to overcome against a decent Oregon team.

AMAZING FSU has rushed for 6 yards on the first series so far......more than weeks 1&2 combined. Bowden did his homework the season is saved.

Same for me, but after watching it a couple of times, it's clear AU interfered on that pass. But LSU got jobbed at Auburn two years ago as well, so I'm not really surprised.

"OU's defense did give up 2 TDs in less than a minute. And they still had a chance to win it with a FG but that was blocked. The bad officiating wasn't the only reason OU lost that game."

No, but this isn't Al Gore or John Kerry bitching about a couple of slow voting precincts. This is about a kick in the gut...twice...by refs that have the truth at their fingertips and failed entirely to rule based upon it.

When you have the TV talking heads making a statement on a call like this onside kick, you know it's obvious. The call was a complete joke, and that had to completely demoralize the OU team. Thank goodness they put up the effort, but they should not have had to. And the NCAA should apologize to them for such a shameful performance on the part of the referees.

That Oregon gleefully accepts such a stolen victory is testimony to the desperation of PAC teams to legitimately gain a national presence, and their inability to do so fairly.

Welcome to Buckeye Country.

I've been watching Ohio State football since I was probably 10 years old or younger, and year after year, we not only have gotten screwed by the media, but in some cases, the officials as well. Not to mention the polls.

The year we won the NC, beating Miami, Trev (pretty boy) and Mark May on ESPN trashed us unmercifully, in their own subtle way that is the media.

All you can do is keep getting better, and don't let them get the best of you.

What is really annoying is that any long shot OU had at playing for the national title was demolished by a bad call. I am done with college football.

Thankfully for everyone involved, the Sooner players have more staying power and will come back next week.....

So what. I'm mad - I didn't know who the refs were. They're usually someone else's.

No, I don't know why you hate the Sooners, but you are constantly addressing vile hateful things about them to me and saying they cheat all the time, which they don't, so I have to assume you must have some kind of animosity towards them, going back to Bud Wilkinson, for some reason.

That's it.

FSU's player Fagg should consider a name change.

One of the things of beauty about college football is trashing another fan's teams.

everyone does it. Michigan fans trash on OSU fans, ND fans hit on just about everyone and so on.

Like with Scott Says, I'll trash USC and he'll hit me back with "Is Mo Clarett doing security for you guys? He's got the arsenal"

Happens all the time.

I don't hate the Sooners, not at all. I just bring up things because that's what college football fans do.

I understand you are upset, and you have legitimate greivances, but I don't understand what you want Oregon to do. "Okay, you guys deserved that one, so we'll take the L and you get credit for the W."

Or "let's play double super sudden death to see whose champion of the universe!"

If the refs are handing you a victory, any team would take it.

the NCAA has had an officiating problem for at least 5 years, yet they continue to stick 40-70 year olds out there with 18-22 year olds who are entering their prime physically...

that's half of it. The game is too fast for the referees and officials. That is what occured in the LSU/Auburn game.

Secondly, blown calls like those in the Oklahoma game are inexcusable. That shows a complete lack of knowledge of the rulebook.

Clearly the Oregon player touched the ball before the 10 yard line was crossed. That is an illegal procedure penalty and a rekick. In the NFL, the receiving team gets the ball and I don't believe the college teams have that option.
