When I was little, living in Northern Michigan (the U.P.) it was normal to have at least one snowfall before Halloween (sometimes *on* Halloween, which made trick-or-treating not very fun). It rarely stayed on the ground, although it was considered good luck to have snow on the ground before mid-November (the start of deer season...)

We never had snow on Halloween up here in MA, but we did have several really COLD ones or rainy ones when the kids were all bundled up in their coats, so it never mattered WHAT their costume looked like. I never went that overboard with costumes anyway, but they didn't care; they got the candy anyway!
We had one really stormy Halloween in 1999, the year of the "Perfect Storm", and about 5 years ago, we saw the Aurora Borealis near Halloween. The sky had red and deep blue streaks in it; it was vey creepy!

I used to love going outside and watching the Northern Lights... one summer while I was in high school (it was probably during a maximum solar cycle, around '78-'79) I remember the streaks of red and green would seem to just flow and jump across nearly half the sky. I could watch it for hours at a time...

SirKit would LOVE to go up into Alaska or Northern Canada to see the Northern lights up close.

I've seen the northern lights. Yep, they're just amazing... Saw them up in the Bering.

I guess Comcast is still having troubles... Hmmmm...wonder if that's got anything to do with the fact that I can't access Comcast from work? I can't get to comcast.net. Just keeps loading, but never loads. Started yesterday though.
Was online just fine at home last night. 'cept I still can't access my blog from the home PC. It's okay on the laptop.
So, that's weird.

Yay, we're back!! Must have come up overnight.
Life without internet stinks. Even if it's just for short periods.

Oh man, that must have been awesome! It was really... big. :-)
It should be noted though, that the Bering/Arctic is maybe not the best place to go to try to see them. It's the weather. Crummy. Clear nights were rare enough that we actually only saw the lights a couple of times over the six month trip. So... it's not like we ever got accustomed to seeing them. But when we did, it was spectacular.
