The Hobbit Hole XXXI - Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I have a feeling it's going to be too wet to rake leaves here until...spring?

Well, you are no slouch yourself. You are nearing 6,000 words...

Last year... someone kept calling me for hours and hours a day and then showed up for Thanksgiving dinner. He is cutting into my word count productivity this year too.

You're no slouch! Your word count has been better than mine all week.

My ~plan~ has been to put up lights next Friday when I'm off for Veteran's Day.

I don't think it's gonna happen.

My favorite line so far:

“He’s a foot doctor,” Dobby explained.
“Handy,” I said. It’s probably better to have a podiatrist in your crew than a ninja, at least as far as Philmont is concerned.

Philmont?

And crew as in group or as in...something else?

I have ship crews on the brain right now...

I'll share a favorite passage of mine... Conversation between Jeb Stuart, Sandie Pendleton,(Jackson's adjunct) and Major Morrison (an aide to Stonewall Jackson and his brother-in-law) over events that happened in yesterday's battle.

“Rooney told me about your exploits. That was some pretty good scouting. I could use a man like you on my staff, if you ever tire of the General.” (Stuart to Pendleton)

“I will keep that in mind, but I am quite content where I am.” (Pendleton's response)

“How about Major Smith and me,” Morrison complained. “We did some exploits of our own yesterday.”

“Anyone can sit in the mud, Major,” Stuart replied, winking at Jackson.

“We did more than sit in the mud. We managed to get 20,000 men in position in under four hours despite incredible hardships.”

“I stand corrected. If I have the need for someone to sit in the mud and point to the right, I will know where to come,” Stuart said, his eyes dancing in laughter.

“James and I can point left too,” Morrison retorted.

“Ah, ambidextrous! General Jackson, it is no wonder that your staff is the envy of the army.”

Philmont is a high adventure base in the mountains of NM. The biggest, the best, the most amazing. Scouting mecca (before mecca became a dirty word). A crew is a group of Scouts, usually from the same Troop, who get to spend twelve days backpacking there. In this case they're all from the same Scout Council, but different Troops.

Aaaah, Civil War era. Very good.

We just started watching book III of the North and South. I haven't read those books - I'm sure they're just fine. But there's lots to giggle about in the made-for-TV production. ie sequins on the dresses.

A little shallow (a lot) on the history. The books (tv miniseries) got worse as they went along. I just saw them recently. I cringed because in the '80's I thought it was good TV. 25 years later, and lots of books later, I knew better.

I did like Philip Casnoff though. And can he sing!!!

No, but he does chew up the scenery. He was in the musical Chess. I think he was also in Shogun. High tenor and excellent, excellent voice.

Tenors do nothing for me. A good baritone makes me melt.

Besides, isn't tenor a bit ... elvish?
