Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That might be interesting...

We have snow. Only half an inch. Now that I am sure it will not affect my commute it makes me happy.

Izzit Friday?

I still don't have a real plot.

So there's that.

Heh...I had a dream last night that I accidentally copied my story to my work computer, and my boss found it. I have no idea what story it was, though, 'cause although in the dream I recognized it as mine, it wasn't anything like anything I'm working on or planning to work on.

Started off a bit rough here this morning...had to read the Riot Act of 2006 to my jedis...

Now there is peace and quiet. One is writing instructions on making his favorite sandwich, the other is doing inverse operations.

And amazingly, there is contentment all around. Heh!

What is it that exgeeeye says about all hail the mighty coffee or something...I know just what he means.

Had another problem at the pool.

There were two lap swimmers there.

Now, to be absolutely clear, there are specific times to lap swim. Open swimming is not allowed during lap swim times and I never bring the boys during that time.

So I was pretty upset when the lifeguard sectioned off HALF the pool for these two lap swimmers during open swim time. That forced the kids to play and splash too close to the elderly ladies that are doing range of motion in the pool and they don't like to get their hair wet, you know? Normally, it's not a problem, even if they section off one lane for a lap swimmer. There's plenty of room and the jedis know not to splash on the ladies.

But half the pool was too much.

So I motioned to the life guard (an exceptionally cool and fine person that I really like) and told him my beef. He told me that one of the lap swimmers gives him a hard time all the time and that she would be mad if he took down the barrier, but that he would take it down. I told him if she gave him any trouble, to tell her I made him do it and to take it up with me.

He replied "You know, I get the feeling you could probably handle it."

:-)

He took it down and told her something...she eventually got out and just scowled at me.

Oh, and the other lap swimmer just kept lap swimming...now and then she had to dodge a noodle or something, but she just kept going.

Matthew has even done lap swimming during open swim time...he did 15 laps the other day!

There aren't any indoor pools at home, but the Kiwanis club (spelling?) has an open swim hour during the summer.

It's always total chaos. Lots of kids just splashing around, mostly. I can't imagine anyone trying to do laps in the middle of it. It would be stoopid to try.

Well, see...they're so used to kids being in school during the open swim time that they think they can get away with it. (See, they have to pay extra per lap swim session...they don't during open swim.)

But now there are so many homeschooled kids that get memberships and come in during open swim that it's put a cramp in their style. It's not swamped with kids, so it's still "do-able" but they need to come during lap swim time if they want total peace.

I wish there was an indoor place to do lap swim around here. There is a public indoor pool on the other side of town and the Y which is super expensive or I could change gyms. Other than that I am SOL. It sucks because the outdoor pools open so late in the year that there is not a lot of time to train before triathlons. I like the company gym and an indoor pool is about the only thing they are missing that I want.
Maybe I will have to get a wet suit and go swim in the lake with Jen chasing me in the kayak or something.

If you count a lap as down and back then 15 is a little more than the distance for (most) 'Sprint' distance triathlons.

Ha! Not a bad idea!

We have a Y just down the street from us...literally a mile away. It is unbelievably expensive!! Plus, they don't have open swim during the day...only in the evening.

The Salv. Army has open swim in the evening too, and it's absolute chaos, so I imagine the Y evening swimming would be too and not worth the money. Plus, one of the ladies that works there is a member of "The Other Support Group" and is a complete snot. (She's the one that snapped at me when I asked a question about the co-op several years ago (before the split)...some here might remember that story.)

It's nice to be able to go to the SA, just for a couple of hours, during the day...even though I have to drive quite a bit further.

Is that a lap? There and Back Again?

Well, then he did 7.5 laps...

Still, I think that's pretty good, nonetheless!

Certainly that is still quite good. About 375 meters if it is a standard 25 meter pool. Going just down one way is usually called a 'length'.

Woohooo! Matthew made 100 on his science test again!

He's completed Chap. 3, The Glory of the Stars, now it's on to The Sun.
