Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Apparently it will be the death of you, being up that late.

Morning...

I can't wait to hear the horn toot! LOL!! But to do that, it'll need an electrical system, so the first time I hear that horn toot, it'll have a whole lot more meaning than any other time I've honked a horn!

And I really hope the radio works...and that 8-track player.

Good morning all! My eyes are so bleary I can hardly see!

~sip~

Corin, you *were* up late!

Heh...I was looking at job postings and I found a chemist job that listed one of the required skills as "being able to read and follow simple instructions."

~sip~

Guess there'll always be work for us literate codgers.

I'm making pancakes for the jedis. Here, I'll give you my recipe...it's ultra easy!

For just the two boys, I make it this way...

1/2 C Self-Rising flour
1/2 C Milk
1 large egg
1 level T sugar
1 T oil

If you double this, you can just use 1 jumbo egg.

Just mix it all together and cook it in a non stick pan. I use a well-seasoned cast iron skillet.

Easy and very quick. You can put blueberries in 'em. I serve mine with syrup and whipped cream.

I only use self-rising flour for this (and occasionally some easy drop biscuits). I have a one gallon baggie that I keep the flour in...I keep it in the freezer so it stays fresh, since it takes a long time to use up. I took a sharpie and wrote "Self-Rising Flour" on the baggie and also wrote the recipe for the pancakes and the biscuits on the actual baggie too...

Yeah, really.

Wish I could find the ad again. I'm sure it wanted an advanced degree.

It's pretty sad when you see reading and writing skills listed as a job requirement. I'm also seeing "must be native English speaker" as a requirement. How un-PC!

This is pretty much our recipe, too...though a good bit of the time when I was growing up, I was making it with more like two or three cups of milk and two or three cups of flour...

And we just added 1/2 tsp baking soda instead of using self-rising flour. Or was it baking power? Soda, I think.

Steve's dad had a great buttermilk pancake recipe...I watched him make them once and copied it down. Steve will *only* make that recipe, out of loyalty I guess! :-) That's ok.

But he does look very disdainfully at my little recipe...like we might as well up and go to McDonald's or something...

Good food doesn't have to be difficult or fancy. ;-)

True!

The buttermilk pancakes are "special" and when Steve makes them we all sit around eating them and thinking about his dad. The psychological aspect of the buttermilk pancakes is half the pleasure, if that makes any sense.

There's nothing special or meaningful about my pancakes...they're just food to be consumed as quickly as possible and get on with the day. Heh heh!

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

LOL!!!!

I thought about making pancakes for breakfast yesterday. Only thing is I've never cooked 'em in a pan so I am not sure how they'd turn out.

Eh? Never in a pan? What is the difference? A flat hot piece of metal is a flat hot piece of metal. Anyway, let me cook them, then you can see how I like them.

Wait, have I cooked pancakes for you before? Maybe back at spring break or something? I forget.
