If you saw the second webisode, Tigh seemed to be trying to hide the weapons in the temple. Much like the Muslims currently use their mosques for their arms cache. The other character objected on the basis that the Cylons had respected the sanctity of the temple.

The following preview had a voice over saying their are some things you just don't do, even in war. I think not using a religous building for military purposes would rate right up there.

It is not enough just to survive, sometimes you have to be worthy of survival.

The debate between liberty and what government is willing to allow. I don't like the analogy that is implied in the scene. That the Cylons had respected the temple is irrelevant. They eradicated billions of people and are subjugating the last of the human race. The humans should prove their superiority by not doing whatever it takes to be free of the machines?

It is not enough just to survive, sometimes you have to be worthy of survival.

That question is the underlying point of the entire series. Is mankind too flawed to be worthy of survival? What compromises are mankind willing to make? The Cylon "heroes" were asking themselves the question that is a direct transposition at the end of last season. Was the total destruction of mankind leading the Cylons into the trap that was their parents flaw?

We don't really know what the Cylons are doing to the humans. They seemed to have adopted a "we are machines and can not reach beyond that so we must serve our creators" mindset at the end of last season. The Cylons could be up to nanny statism. Granted nanny statism is in it's own special class as a tyranny, the worst sort.

Whatever it takes can encompass a lot of things, if you when but become just like your enemy, have you won?

Freedom from those who murdered your species is the only thing that matters. Survival trumps all else.

Taking into consideration the backstory, mankind already took the path the Cylons are on. Mankind's failure triggered the beginning of the series, with the return of mankind's children.

I've lost track of this series and I suppose I have to buy or rent the CD's to catch up.

Which is why I love good science-fiction in general, and BSG in particular. It allows us to explore complex modern issues while removing us from our narrow field of vision.

The day BSG no longer makes me uncomfortable, or stops forcing me to re-examine my assumptions, is the day I stop watching it.
