Paris Hilton was arrested in Hollywood early Thursday and charged with driving under the influence.

TMZ has learned LAPD officers noticed Paris driving her Mercedes McLaren SLR erratically at 12:31 AM and stopped her. They believed she exhibited signs of intoxication. We're told they administered a field sobriety test, and Paris blew a .08. In California, driving with a .08 blood alcohol level is the minimum level for DUI.

Paris was arrested and taken to the LAPD Hollywood division, where she was booked. The officers who stopped the car did not know it was Paris Hilton until they approached the vehicle on foot. Police sources say she was cooperative. Paris had a passenger in the car -- Kimberly Stewart, Rod Stewart's daughter.

The doors rotate more "up" than "out" ... But I have not test-driven that particular car.

(Them there high-income, lawyer-and-doctor-dentist-ubercapitalist-types might know more of course. If they'll mosey out to their alternate garage and take a quick look-see at the limo's (er, cars) stashed out there, maybe they can tell us ...)

Then again, Paris IS handicapped, so maybe she doesn't have to worry about it ....

Now I think I'm beginning to understand why so many adults were, if not upset, at least sad, about Steve Irwin's passing.

You look at what passes for celebrities these days in the US, and it's pathetic. They are fake/shallow, no morals, etc., whereas with Irwin and the few like him, what you see is what you get - the real deal, and that's partly why he stood out.

I agree with you that 10% of the people are 90% of the problem. This is true of almost any crime. But that does not change the fact that driving while impaired is still a stupid and irresponsible thing to do, and should be illegal and punishable by law.

Sure, throw the book at the habitual offender. I agree that the penalties for habitual offenders are too light. But there should also be a penalty to be paid for driving around at 0.08, because you are much more likely to get into an accident at that BAC. The Police can do both at the same time.
