Get Vista RC1 while you can

Microsoft released Windows Vista RC1 to testers last week and today it has opened the doors to anyone that wants to take a test drive. The download weighs in at around 2.6GB for the 32-bit version and 3.7GB for the 64-bit version. Everyone should hop on and get the download as quickly as possible – Microsoft could pull the plug at any time. You can register to get a product key from the following link.

You can try out Vista RC1 for free until June 1, 2007. After that, you’ll have to pony up for one of four versions of Vistas (full/upgrade):

* Windows Vista Home Basic, $199/$99.95
* Windows Vista Home Premium, $239/$159
* Windows Vista Business, $299/$199
* Windows Vista Ultimate, $399/$259

For those of you who run into software incompatibilities and driver issues during testing, be sure to contact your software vendor/hardware manufacturer so that are made aware.

Isn't there a reason why it's free? Not very computer savvy, but couldn't there be bugs, or does it stop after some time?

Since you seem to be computer savvy, would you happen to know if there is a color-code in html for transparent or clear?

Chances are it will stop after 365 days, least that is what I have seen in the past.

By "upgrade", does that mean an upgrade from a pre-existing XP install? Or an upgrade from the release candidate?

its not bad, its a LOT better than the BETA2 version that they released last time. IF you still have the Vista Beta2 Serial #
ITS the same.

It expires June 1, 2007. Meaning that you'll have basically four choices:

a.) Go out and buy a copy of Vista
b.) Figure out a hack that will let it run past then.
c.) Install a new OS. At which point one could either reinstall XP or try out Linux.
d.) Get a new computer (i.e. Mac)

Is your pinglist for people who know lots about computers, or is it for ordinary people, too?

Thanks for the link, I tried to get this during the earlier beta release but was experiencing 'technical difficulties' during the registration process.

No, but you could add this to your paragraph tag (or span):

style="display:none;"

I believe you can upgrade WinXP although I Made a partition and installed it fresh... IF you do an upgrade you need at least 9GB free on the drive i believe because it stores your settings...

I run eight machines here at home (I just do...) and I have no desire to put another OS on any of them, even if they gave me a free license.

I am a developer and I finally had to take it off by laptop. Not my main laptop... My testing laptop. I put XP back on it. At least it will run with XP. This version of Windows will make the Millennium version look like robust code.

This disaster follows the old line that says for every bug fixed 1.3 bugs are introduced.

The network stuff is screwed up beyond belief.
