ROSEBURG, Ore. -- After years of talk, it's time for action against the invasive tui chub.
Diamond Lake will be closed to boating so officials can press forward with their plan to poison the unwanted fish and return the lake to a showcase trout fishery. In coming days, the state will spread a chemical that is toxic only to fish, and an estimated 90 million chub will die. The fish kill comes after years of public hearings and environmental battles over how to deal with the exploding chub population.
Diamond Lake's deep-blue waters have clouded in recent years as the chub proliferated. Brought in as bait from the Klamath Basin, the chubs multiplied like locusts, elbowed out rainbow trout, dirtied the water and drove campers away.
The lake will be restocked with trout next spring.

So they're going to "destroy the lake in order to save it."

Diamond Lake is a gorgeous gem just north of Crater Lake. We hit it twice a year & even with the chubs have enjoyed the fishing. They've planted several types of trout in an attempt to discover what type of game fish may eat the chub; some Williamson River trout have grown quite large. It will take a few years after the chub are removed, but the lake will see nice red meated trout that can grow to respectable size.

I googled chubs and all I get are fat people and pets named chubs. Very few fish pictures. They look like they're a waste.
