If you don't know if Windows Firewall is turned on for you, please go to your Control Panel in XP. If you don't see a series of icons, select the Classic view mentioned on the left side of the window. Then find "Windows Firewall" and double-click on it. Make sure it is turned on. You can select the box which disallows exceptions, too.

Good advice from many.

1. Remove Norton. After you remove it, reboot and then remove it from your registry using regedit. Norton is notorious for lurking there and messing things up. If you don't know how to edit your registry, get some help.
2. Install Trendmicro and make sure it updates itself. This is one of the big problems with Norton...it doesn't update itself very well. Trend does.
3. Install Spysweeper also.

Make sure you set these programs to run every day, not every month. When you remove Norton, make sure you are off the internet. Get the Trend installed and then update your files.

Use adaware also. it is free. go to www.download.com to see what other people think.
