Since 2000, Folding@Home (FAH) has led to a major jump in the capabilities of molecular simulation. By joining together hundreds of thousands of PCs throughout the world, calculations which were previously considered impossible have now become routine. FAH has targeted the study of of protein folding and protein folding disease, and numerous scientific advances have come from the project.
Now in 2006, we are looking forward to another major advance in capabilities. This advance utilizes the new Cell processor in Sony’s PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) to achieve performance previously only possible on supercomputers. With this new technology (as well as new advances with GPUs), we will likely be able to attain performance on the 100 gigaflop scale per computer. With about 10,000 such machines, we would be able to achieve performance on the petaflop scale. With software from Sony, the PlayStation 3 will now be able to contribute to the Folding@Home project, pushing Folding@Home a major step forward.

PING to FR Folders.
That's an interesting thought. I'd be concerned that memory might be an issue with some of the Work Units. Let us all know if you pull it off, though. We're all ears when it comes to sources for additional processors to conscript to the project.
DOH! my PC tanked a few months ago and I haven't reinstalled Folding on my Temp. Thanks for posting this, I will reinstall that when I get home from work.
Huge folding day yesterday. You're back from your frolic in Europe I presume?
Bump!
Arrgh!
I've been bumped out of the top 200.
Good on Y'all.
What router do you have? And how's the mini-unix working for you?
Haven't checked in a couple days, but team RWR/FR was at #71.
Now that it's cooled down substantially, I leave my little pig on fulltime and do my FReeping and fantasy football stuff on my wireless laptop.
You can't even tell the big box is on it's running so quietly and is still cool to the touch. Sorry I can't crank up more machines, but maybe on down the road I can get a big-ol' Server Farm together and make it to at least five digits in User Score.
God Bless,
J-
I borg'd my office PC -- a 2.8GHz P4. Now I'm looking to break into the top 150 in two weeks.
Won't be back for a few more days, however I've been approved to borg some machines awaiting reimage :)
Will be good for maybe another day or two.
Smart work!
