OK everyone, it's time for my quarterly "What Are You Reading Now?" thread.
I'm posting this a few days early because of the Labor Day weekend. I like to get as many responses as possible.
Well...? What are you reading now?
It can be a technical journal. It can be a trashy pulp novel. It can be a a best-seller or a travel guide.
I'll start. Right now, I'm finishing "One Soldier's Story: A Memoir" by Bob Dole.
What a great book. I encourage everyone to read it - even if you felt Bob Dole was a sell-out to conservative causes. I believe he would have made a great President!
Next week, I'm starting "Breaking Point: The 1995 Quebec Referendum" by Mario Cardinal. This one looks to be fantastic.

I just read every Mitford series book by Jan Karon which I loved. Perfect for women. I also read, The Journal of Anne Reading, by Maggie Garrett Irwin, a true account of a British nurse who traveled to America to nurse the troops during the civil war. It is wonderful, and is available on Amazon.com. I loved it and wanted more.

After reading a book about Linux, you need some easy leisurely reading.

That book is excellent.
They say that a Marine Sniper in Iraq exceeded Gunny Hathcock's record. If this is true, his story would be another excellent addition to the Marine pantheon.

Shooter: The Autobiography of the Top-Ranked Marine Sniper is a pretty good read. Sgt. Coughlin talks about how he had to create a new style of sniper warfare in Iraq (Hathcock's jungle style tactics were not suitable for urban warfare).
I read Coughlin's book and then read Hathcock's book. The Hathcock book is a classic hands down, he is the master sniper. It's a better written book, IMO.
Hathcock has 93 confirmed kills, Coughlin has 60 confirmed. Both probably have more unconfirmed though.

I'm alternating between Victor Davis Hanson's Carnage and Culture and Proust's Swann's Way. That's my nod to "diversity".
