A 14-year-old Nepali has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's shortest man.

With 20 inches height and 4.5 kg weight, Khagendra Thapamagar of Baglung, western Nepal, had his name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's shortest man leaving behind his competitor, a Jordanian, with 25.5 inches height, The Himayan Times daily said.

"The Guinness Book people sent us information that Khagendra contested for the title with Jordan's Yoyansvans, who is 25.5 inches tall and weighed 10 kg, but Khagendra came out as the winner," the daily quote, Min Bahadur Rana, chairman of the Khagendra Thapamagar Academy, which organizes exhibitions on Khagendra to support for him and his family.

India's Gul Mohammed, who died in 1997 at the age of 36, held the world record with 22.5-inch height.

Khagendra's mother Dhan Maya said her son started moving around only when he was 8 and his physical growth stopped at the age of 11, the daily said. nepalnews.com Aug 28 06

If tall people can make a fortune playing pro basketball, this guy's got to have an advantage and be able to make a fortune in . . . something.

He's only 14.

He may have a growth spurt and "shoot up" to 25 inches.

According to March 13, 2006 article from the Deccan Herald (India) many consider him a
" Baman Avatar, another reincarnation of Vishnu who assumed the form of a dwarf to humble a mighty king, according to mythology....Within 48 hours, 50,000 people had queued up to catch a glimpse of the new marvel, media reports said."

Wonder how small he was at birth. He's as tall at 14 as many newborns are.

Just now on 'news'

This baby is larger than the 14 year old.

Brazilian Woman Has 14-Pound Baby

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - A 14-pound girl delivered by Caesarean section is so large that her feet reach over the edge of her small crib, hospital officials said Tuesday.
The baby born Sunday, Isabel Vitoria, measured 23.23 inches, is far from the largest baby born in Brazil - a baby born in January 2005 in the northeastern city of Salvador weighed 16 pounds, 11 ounces.

Update: He has to wait 4 years.

"KATHMANDU (Reuters) - A Nepali boy's hope of being declared the world's shortest was dismissed Monday by Guinness World Records which said he was too young to qualify."
...
"There is a possibility that he could be the shortest person in the world, however Guinness World Records cannot examine more details until he reaches the age of 18 years," Amarilis Espinoza, a Guinness World Records spokeswoman, said by email from London.

After that age, we will be happy to review the case," she said."
...
"The current record is held by a Jordanian man, Younis Edwan, who is 25.5 inches tall, the London-based group said"
