We've had an unusually cold August here in Colorado, according to tonight's newscast.

I've done a little work with a farmer's almanac, Blum's. That formula that they use, supposedly Chaldean I believe, is based upon essentially a cycle, something like 19 years. It seems reasonably accurate in broadstroke. I know my grandparents wouldn't plant or harvest without consulting it, and they did pretty well.

I bought a snowblower last year and I've been running the thing all summer to keep the carburetor from gumming up.
I filled the gas tank and didn't use half of it.

Well, I wish they'd let us know where it'll be a warmer than average witner so's I could go there. I just don't see that the winter will be that much colder than average for the whole country. When the jet stream dips down far enough to give the southeast a good cold snap, it's heading up north somewhere else to bring in warmer than average air. Jet stream troughs just aren't big enough to cover the whole country and they aren't that long lasting.

Third frost this month today. The Canada geese are getting antsy; they are fueled up and ready to head out.
