SURVIVOR: COOK ISLANDS - Official Thread
My somewhat fertile brain | 24 August, 2006 | Cuz_it_aint_their_money

Yes FReepers and FReeperettes, its time once again for another season of Survivor.
This time they are in the Cook Islands, in the middle of the South Pacific.

I was going to start off this thread by informing you all about how Mark Burnett’s Production Company has decided to split the tribe along ethnic backgrounds. But that subject has been pretty much beaten to death on at least three different threads. So. . . .

I would like to point out that for all their talk about “minorities” not applying to the show as much as “whites” and about how they had to send their casting producers out to round up minorities, they apparently didn’t have to look too far.

Of the 20 contestants recruited for this season, no less than 13 are from California!
And of those 13, NINE are from the greater Los Angeles area!
So much for diversity!

are you gonna be on the TAR thread Sun night....

Probably, since it's the first night. And it's a 90 minute show too. But after football, there's no telling when it will begin.

The joke is what do you call 3 dogs for a vietnamese? Breakfast, lunch and dinner. LOL! My cousins are half Chinese and they tell it to me all the time, but they use Chinese and dogs. They laugh every time they tell it. I like the older vietnamese guy because he is very self-assured. From what I see of him, I like him. The taller Asian looks just like my oldest cousin. :) So for now, I like him too.

I think the Asian team is the strongest also.

Also, right from the start, I noticed two teams have 3M/2F and the two teams have 2M/3F.

The ones with the 3 men came in 1st and 2nd. Asians & Latinos. Do you think this will be a factor early on?

When the Mexican team finished the event, I could swear I saw seven of them.

In a physically-challenging environment, the tribe with more men has an advantage.

I think the "odd-woman-out" black woman made a big mistake when she voted with the other two women to take out the guy. The two women friends will side with each other against either of the others. The remaining guy's strength will be more important in future contents than odd-woman, so the other two women will vote her out next. If, OTOH, odd-woman had voted out one of the other women, she could have convinced the guys to keep her around

I know this is after the fact but I must say that when Manihiki lost I immediately knew they were going to snuff one of the men. I'm sorry, but I've dealt with enough African American females to know that, in the absence of some bond with one or both of the men, it would be a male that got axed. There's a reason so many African American females have hyphenated names or are single (having never been married). It's a sad aspect of the Big Society culture.

I think this is the most honestly funny statement on American culture I've EVER seen. Prost is a genius.

Usually at this point on Survivor, it is observed that it is difficult to tell the contestants from one another, as they tend to blur until the personalities emerge from more viewing.

This season, saying "I can't tell them apart" could get you in trouble with the PC police. ;-)

The humorous part was getting rid of the self-elected "chief".

Appears to be a case where personalities take the place of strategy.

Thanks for the ping last night. I don't have computer access in the TV room so unfortunately I won't be able to join you during the show. I do enjoy reading what you gals / guys have to say the next day though. Keep it going!

LOl!

I thought it was great. I'm crazy about the island scenery. Not the perfect tourist photographs, but the genuine rough and weedy and sandy scenes.

I think the most interesting one is Cao Boi. In my mind I pronounce that Cowboy. I think he is very physical and knowledgeable and is willing to do anything.

The person who had to have a break mid fire starting was a real clinker. To demand a break and then have the nerve to lay down like a beached manatee in a yellow outfit.

I admit I'm intrigued with Cao Boi's doctoring. Time will tell if he is as good as he seems or it is he that is full of hot air.

The chicken thing was so funny. And stupid. Did she not think the chickens would run at the first chance. She was raised to think all animals are like stuffed animals and are cooperative and handleable.

The Exile Island concept is interesting. I had no idea that was coming. It is much smaller than I expected. I thought that the clue that said something like the northern island will disappear meant to face south.

Now I can't wait until the next one. I presume it is next week at the same time.

I think Cao Boi (they did pronounce it Cowboy) will turn out to be a real character. I'm sure I could live with a little red mark if it meant being rid of a headache.

I thought it was funny how they all had something to say about their own culture and background. "black people don't like to be told what to do" "people think we're small because we eat so much rice" "here's to whitey" "I can't believe we're rowing towards an island and not away from one" ... or something like that.

Right after she said "people call me Flicka" she "accidentally" let the chickens out. **Sheesh** I'm going to be watching her and see if she shows signs of being a vegetarian and intentionally letting those birds go. What was she thinking!! ... and do all fire dancers have to have funky hair?

That jazz musician dug his own hole. I can understand his tribe mates getting tired of him, and he did appear to have a low energy level, but how wise was it to get rid of one of only two males? Unless the actress and makeup artist prove to have some strength, this tribe is a goner.
