NEW YORK, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- New York-based Home Box Office is looking to cast "Deadwood" star Paul Giamatti as the second U.S. President John Adams in a miniseries to begin in January.
Giamatti, best known for his role as the wine-loving schoolteacher in "Sideways," will play the founding father in a seven-episode series produced by Tom Hanks, the New York Post reported
Giamatti begins as the young Adams, a Harvard-educated lawyer who identified with the patriots' cause and became involved in the Revolutionary War.
"John Adams" is being filmed in Virginia with several scenes shot at the College of William and Mary and Colonial Williamsburg, The Hampton Roads Daily Press (Va.) reported.
Giamatti is on "Deadwood"? In what role?
I think he is better known for his role as the boxing promoter in "Cinderella Man" for which he won the Academy Award for "Best Supporting Actor."
In "Sideways" he is known as "that guy they cast because Billy Crystal didn't want the role."
"Shorten up those punches and get inside of him. That's your turf, Jimmy. Inside is YOURS!"
I thought he was terrific in CINDERELLA MAN.
I see him as Adam's manservant not Adams though.
And "Sideways" was awful...a colleague made me go see it with her. big mistake. I kept thinking that all the characters should be put out of their misery.
Pig-Vomit rocks!
It's that guy from "Big Daddy."
Nope, nominated, didn't win. The Sideways role brought him into the big leagues. George Clooney beat him for Best Supporting Actor.
I thought Cinderella Man blew me away. Incredible movie
