The author is out to lunch. That statement is far from something "Americans can agree on."
I am still appalled everytime I look at the pictures of JonBenet with mascara on.
People nowadays have this bizarre notion that a small child acting in a sexualized, cynical or worldly-wise manner is somehow cute and endearing. It's sick.
There is something different between a father (and mother) allowing their daughter to be dressed the way JonBonet was, and "talent" promoters. Neither is good or wholesome, but parents have the final say, and blame.
Actually, John Ramsey said he only attended the "talent" portions of JonBenet's pageants.
Sounds like a candidate for a future FOX News Alert.
Uh...kiddy spa treatments? I don't think I want to know...
As a child, I loved to watch old Shirley Temple Movies. As an adult I am appalled at the way adults dressed her in some of the movies. Specifically the littles dresses that never quite covered up her panties.
It creeps me out totally. There were (and are) some very strange people in Hollyweird.
That is so disturbing. What kind of parents would allow and even encourage this kind of sleezery? Nine years old?? They should be out playing with other nine year olds, not being paraded on the runway so pedophiles can get their sick jollies? If I was a vice cop, I'd go to these events and take a long hard look at the audience.
Pornography kills. It's killing us all, as a culture.
"Take The New York Times, which on Sunday dedicated its front page to a story about child modelling agencies that publish suggestive online photographs of pre-teens. Read the intro: The model is shown rising out of a bubble bath, suds dripping from her body. Her tight panties and skimpy top are soaked and revealing . . . The models name is Sparkle. She is at most nine years old.
New York Times has made a bundle accepting kiddie porn ads. Google New York Times/Calvin Klein/Kiddie porn.
Little girls have been playing "dress up" and putting on mommy's make up since frills and make up were invented. Having little girl beauty contests, baby contests and any other sorts of contests for kids have always been perfectly acceptable.
Its the people who try to make them something "sexual" by their villifying tripe that are the problem. Leave these people alone. They did nothing wrong.
At an age when most boys are becoming acutely aware of the opposite sex, L.D. is surrounded by gorgeous, scantily clad women who bare their breasts onstage - but never in his presence.
The breasts aren't the whole show, of course. There is high-energy country music, dancing, corn pone humor a la "Hee-Haw" and specialty acts such as magician Nathan Burton.
There are a limited number of topless scenes.
And L.D. can't watch them, even though his hormones may be in a bit of a rage.
"My mom doesn't let me see any of the ladies," he says. "I wouldn't mind it, but..."
He also is still short enough that he can't see over a 6-foot curtain barrier behind stage. On the other side of the barrier the topless dancers are preparing for their next scene.
Lets face it: times have changed. The creep-o-meter needs to be recalibrated.
It really is true. People outside the USA are completly ignorant about the world.
