It's tough to verify some aspects of suspect's life (John Mark Karr)
The Seattle Times ^ | August 18, 2006 | Adam Geller

As investigators puzzle over the life and mind of John Mark Karr, who has confessed to the killing of JonBenet Ramsey, they must unravel an elaborate and hazy narrative woven in part by Karr himself, much of it constructed around a clear and chilling theme — a yearning to be close to children.

Karr is a man who, while wanted as a fugitive on child-pornography charges, sought to impress prospective employers with a record of accomplishment preparing young lives "for a successful future."

He is a man who twice married teenagers — one just 13 at the time. Both would later claim they had been coerced.

And he is the man who confided to family members that he was deeply troubled by the slaying of the Colorado 6-year-old. He now claims to have loved and sexually assaulted her.

It's difficult to know how much to believe about the life Karr says he has led since JonBenet was found strangled and beaten a decade ago in the basement of her family's home.

"I awoke the children in the morning and gave them breakfast," Karr wrote in one online résumé, recounting life as a private teacher and caregiver for three girls in Germany, ages 7, 11 and 12. "At day's end, I made sure the children had their evening bath, then put them to bed and read to them before they went to sleep."

Karr, who arrived in Thailand earlier this year looking for work as a teacher, claims to have spent years skipping from job to job, country to country, nearly all the time working with children. Details proved difficult to pin down Thursday.

School officials in Alabama and California confirmed that he worked in both states as a substitute teacher in the latter half of the 1990s and in 2001.

There's more evidence that points to the Ramsey's than at Karr.

As much as I would love to see John Karr be guilty of this, I don't think he is. But I never thought the Ramseys killed their daughter. I think Boulder messed up and had to point a finger to cover their butts.

re: Why would anyone hire this guy to take care of three young daughters?

Why would anyone hire ANY guy to care for three young girls? That's simply not a job for a man.

I kinda wonder if maybe this guy is a material witness as opposed to the killer himself. He made the statement he was 'present' when the girl died. It would be much easier to get him back into this country if he were accused of murder instead of being a witness. Just a thought.

He couldn't keep a job as a substitute teacher....Often let go. How did he support his wife and three children. What other jobs did he do? Nothing mentioned in any of the articles. He had to work somewhere!

Exactly.

The Ramseys will face judgement in the afterlife.

I do not know about you, but I am getting so tired of this case I could scream. I will not read and watch another second of this trash.

$118K was the amount of Ramsey's bonus.

He says he did it. He has been actively pursuing a sick twisted lifestyle abusing children. He knows things that no one else knew about the crime scene. And yet we have people who are giving him the benefit of the doubt and still pointing fingers at the family.

Now that is really weird...

We've kinda got a good possibility. In his "wierd" writing to a girl in a yearbook...He writes:

"maybe I Shall Be The Conquerer"

He has been actively pursuing a sick twisted lifestyle abusing children.

At this point in the investigation, there is zero evidence that he abused children, although it's true he seems to have spent much of his adult life hanging around youngsters.

When he was 19, Karr legally married a 13-year-old. When he was 23 or 24, Karr remarried, this time to Lara Knutson, who was 16.

A few years ago, he was arrested on a MISDEMEANOR charge of possessing child porn.

Beyond these facts, we know virtually nothing about the man other that what he has said about himself, and we can't take his word as gospel.

I understand. But this may be of interest. His handwriting was analyzed on one of the TV shows and an expert found that his yearbook handwriting looked very very similar to the handwriting on the ransom note. Plus...the last four initials that no one could figure out..well, they are the initials of four words he used on his high school yearbook message.

One more point: he was fired after only two weeks from a private school in Thailand. Reason: terrible temper.

Too many coincidences ...I say he did it.

Even the one I showed (but I didn't come up with it) is still only a theory. HOWEVER, I'll bet his brother recognizes it from some kind of game when they were kids.

Want to hear something REAL strange. My granddaughter handed me a small home made card. It had a big Blocked "V" on the front. Inside, it said: VICTORY IS OURS".

She asked if I remembered it. Told her yes: We had beaten the boys at monopoly and we sent them the note. We were even going to get T-shirts. It was a REAL BIG DEAL to have beaten them. But it was only by "teaming up" that we could do it.

We decided against the T-Shirts because we didn't want to be "mean".

Me too. I'm intrigued by the downright weirdness and apparent incompetence that has gotten things to this point though.

I've about run out of energy to delve into new info and post about it though, so the true blue JonBenet Junkies will have to continue these threads without much help from you or me.

Just saw that the word "VICTORY" preceded the SBTC in the ransom note. Your post now make a lot more sense. Is there a childhood game that uses that phrase?

SBTC---shall be the conqueror------That theory has been published.

It sounds quite plausible. Of course the DNA will break the case one way or another.
