Jonbenet Ramsey Murder Suspect Remembered In Hometown For Flashy Car, Marriages To Teens
WSFA-TV Montgomery, AL ^ | 17 Aug 2006 | Alabama AP

Posted on 08/17/2006 6:02:44 PM PDT by commish

The man who claimed he killed JonBenet Ramsey was known in his Alabama hometown for his flashy red sports car. But he was also dogged by questions about his marriages to teenage girls and behavior in elementary classrooms where he worked as a substitute teacher.

John Karr, who lived in northwest Alabama from his preteen years until after the brutal slaying in Colorado, stood out in this rural town both for his gull-winged red DeLorean and his intelligence. Marion County School Superintendent Bravell Jackson, says people couldn't help but like him. Jackson taught Karr and later had to fire him as a substitute teacher amid parent complaints.

Sandra Ford, a retired fifth-grade teacher at Kilby School in Florence supervised Karr's internship, says she was concerned by the way he related to female students. Karr's marriages to teen girls also generated talk in the area. Court records show a 14-year-old girl sought an annulment of their "ceremonial marriage" in 1985. She claimed she feared for her life when she agreed to wed him in 1984, when she was just 13 and he was 19. Karr admitted she was a minor, but denied she was 13.

A judge granted the annulment. Karr later married Lara Karr, who was 16 when their twin daughters died the day they were born on September 1st, 1989. The girls, Angel and Innocence Karr, are buried in the cemetery of a rural church in a family plot. Former Sheriff A-C Tice says the twins were born at home. Probate Judge Annette Bozeman says Karr apparently delivered his children.

I have a feeling that this is like the Unabomber...the brother contacted the cops

Saw yesterday that he'd been in regular contact with a guy in Boulder who had made a documentary on the case, this guy eventually got suspicious and contacted the authorities.

A painted DeLorean is usually one that has been wrecked. They are made of stainless steel and when shopping for one,one of the first things to be aware of is a paint job.

"I lived in Williamsburg, VA for a year."
or
Some of my best friends are southerners.
same ignorance.
Dontcha just hate those that "live in VA" for a year and spend the rest of their lives acting like experts on the south, only really showing their ignorance??
ugh.
That statement isn't meant to be repulsive either. Of course not.
(rolling eyes)

I've said this before, John Mark Karr with the Thai police, cameras and microphones surrounding him reminded me of Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Boulevard": "Mr. Demille, I'm ready for my close-up now". Only, I don't know if the confesion is for real. He just seems to be obsessed and living in a fantasy world.

Karr is a character tailor-made for tabloid TV. We will be hearing about him for months to come from Greta, Rita, Joe, Shep and Keith. Ad nauseam.

Well, he and Lou Smit could've met each other at the DeLorean Owners Club meetings.

That was a joke.

Not back a ways, anyway. His father didn't have enough money to send him to college. He didn't "go" until after his children were all born.

Went to a local community college in AL for a while and taught some adult classes there, then finished (allegedly) with an alleged BS in Liberal Arts (they always made us declare, where I went - couldn't major in "LibArts" itself) from an online "virtual" college in NY which has since changed names.

Anyway, his dad is 85 and may have accumulated some cash by now, because he has a few properties in ATL and in Lynn, Mass. May have been one of those old names that got passed down. Haven't found many else by that same name in research - nor his middle name of Obal, which he also goes by on some docs.

LOL, as if it isn't bad enough that his first bride got an annulment when she was 14, after a one-year marriage, but one San Francisco paper made her 12 instead of 13 when they married.

Sounds better to the pedos, I guess.

He wasn't a school teacher yet at that point. He was a used car dealer/salesman in his little town in AL. I imagine he swapped good.

And pimped her to paedophiles. Yes, you're right.

I grew up in eastern NC, and my grandparents (and the rest of my Mom's folks) lived in middle TN. I now live in Norfolk. Some parts of VA are NOT southern! (metropolitan Hampton Roads, northern VA, etc.)

That's not how he would normally dress, he always dressed quite normal. He's faking all this so he gets back to the USA and doesn't hve to do time in a Thai prison.
