BANGKOK, Thailand - Thai police said Thursday that a 41-year-old American man has admitted to the killing a decade ago of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey in the United States.
Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul, head of Thailand's immigration police, told The Associated Press that John Mark Karr confessed to the killing after his arrest Wednesday at a downtown Bangkok apartment.
"He told police while under arrest that he did kill the girl but so far he has not pleaded guilty in writing. This is needed as official evidence," Suwat said.

I don't know how to take this piece of info. I know at the time of the murder I clearly heard that there was a Christmas party at the Ramseys house. Not just heard it once but numerous times. Was that just another mistake in reporting by the media? Or had there also been a Christmas party there some other night and that was a confusion to the issue. If true, this is the first I heard of it.
I don't know. I want to see what kind of evidence they have against him. If they have DNA then I'll believe it.
I'd like someone to ask him how well he knew the Ramseys. He clearly was in touch with the guy in Colorado who did the documentary ... and with Patsy.
Lin Wood, who I personally think is human slime (just my opinion) is all over this. And it is interesting that this comes out just immediately after Patsy died.
The ranson note is going to have to be explained. How did he know the exact amount of John's bonus? And other oddities in the note. And the 911 call nags me.
I'm anxious to see what comes out in the next few days. I hope this is the guy but ...

I understand this Tracey guy is a somewhat unsavory self promotor.
That makes sense if the family that flew him in ski and want to club and party etc..and need someone on a continuous basis especially through the Holidays.
Best guess is a Ramsey company "big shot" rep who lives elsewhere and might know about the $118,000 thing.
Who knows, the 118,000 thing might have been a topic of conversation at the party and "ticked of" the perp. But I think the pieces will fall easily into place when we know everything.
Don't see a "prominent" lawyer raising their hand to defend him.
Boy, I really hope this is the guy, but early on I'm having my doubts.
So far I haven't seen any news reports that indicate he has even been to Colorado (no jobs listed, etc.) and his wife seemed pretty definite when she said he was at their home that Christmas.
Any chance that these 'unknown details' this guy is supposed to know about the murder were given to him (even accidentally) by the professor he was corresponding with for years.
I also haven't seen any news reports that say anything about any DNA match. Someone can correct me if there has been one.
Like I said, I REALLY hope this is the guy, but my gut tells me he's a whacko pedophile who was obsessed with JonBenet and will say anything to inject himself in the case to be associated with her.
He didn't know the Ramseys. Michael Tracey, the English guy who did the three documentaries promoting the Ramseys' innocence, got ahold of this guy online when Karr first wrote him an email, asking questions for his supposed "term paper" on men who kill children.
Then Tracey strung him along for a couple of years - I will resist the temptation to say what I think about this - and urged him to contact the parents and grandparents for his paper. Karr did talk to GPP (Grandpa Paugh) and Nedra, but John and Patsy refused to talk to him.
(Now I need to look at my notes which are packed away - there was a guy who confessed once before who convinced John he knew things about the crime that no one else knew - but he asked John for $3000 to come to Atlanta or maybe meet him in Boulder and bring his mother. John turned him down. He was in CA, but I can't think of his name.)
However, somewhere along the line, Tracey must have talked Patsy into emailing with Karr in the past few months or so, because several articles say they "talked about many things." See? I think this is all so tainted. Like, Tracey felt the guy out to see how malleable he might be and whether he'd be amenable to the power of suggestion.
I would think in pedo circles, this would be the coup de gras, the piece de resistance, to claim Jon Benet's murder as his. He has a guy who is hanging all over him, a more butch man, nice looking, there in Thailand with him who has all the earmarks of being his "good friend".
There may be some rarefied atmosphere of the elite inner circles of pervdom which none of us could even conjure up if we tried - and in that "world," they just travel anywhere and do whatever, whenever and however they want.
What is so repulsive to me about this guy (since I'm not convinced he's telling the truth) is the way he "vamps" and looks "coquettish" when answering press questions, like a little girl. More like he wanted to *be* JonBenet than *do* anything to JonBenet. Sort of a Mdme Butterfly.

In 1996, he had his own family - wife, 3 sons. He was teaching in AL and I guess doing his "rental business" and "restoring houses." His fantasy resume said "Victorian mansions," but who in the world does that as a business and calls them "mansions"?
His father seems to have several homes in Atlanta and in Lynn, Massachusetts, for some reason - perhaps inherited - and I'm just guessing those are the rentals and Victorians he probably worked on. His brother and dad are in business together in ATL and own or co-own all those properties. They had RE licenses but have let them all lapse.
I haven't figured his family part out yet, meaning family of origin. The wife and kids - I can see he just disappeared in 2001, either coming out as gay or coming out as pedo, if that's what he is.
Oh, I know what I was going to comment on - it's funny that one of the case followers used to harp all the time on the "babysitter" theme about Burke's best friend's "male nanny" who was a college kid always lurking around. His name was Nathan.
Nathan/Nathaniel is John Mark Karr's brother's name and he is a lot younger - 7 years. BUT, that lurking manservant was in Boulder, not in Atlanta, where the Karr family lived at the time.
His brother said that he was in Georgia at that Christmas which already makes the stories different.
Last night in an interview with Greta his brother said he was in Georgia that Christmas. But then the brother didn't know he was divorced or even out of the States. Weird interview with the brother.
Would that be the brother that was interviewed by Greta last night?
