BOULDER, Colo. - A man suspected in the slaying of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey nearly a decade ago was arrested Wednesday in Thailand, the district attorney said.

District Attorney Mary Lacey said the arrest followed several months of work. She disclosed no details about the suspect before a news conference scheduled for Thursday.

Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the man was already being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges. CBS reported that the suspect, a 41-year-old second-grade teacher, will be brought back to the United States this weekend.

Ramsey family attorney Lin Wood said in Atlanta that he has been told that the suspect once lived in Conyers, Ga., outside of Atlanta. He would not comment on whether the Ramseys knew him, and he said he knew nothing else about the man.

Lin said the Ramseys learned about the suspect a least a month before JonBenet's mother, Patsy Ramsey, died in June.

"It's been a very long 10 years, and I'm just sorry Patsy isn't here for me to hug her neck," Wood said.

The girl was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the family's home in Boulder on Dec. 26, 1996.

It still boggles my mind how the guy (1) got in the house and (2) why he'd hang around and write a multi-page letter with adults in the home. All seems quite odd -- too many questions still out there.

I watch law and order..why weren't all the suspects given DNA tests early on and if they refused, be compelled to comply??

The law enforcement officials in Bouder botched the investigation in the beginning. I agree with you if potential suspects were ask to give DNA samples in the start this would have been over. If they refused to give a DNA sample voluntarily a judge can compel a person to give a sample. But, I am heavy happy this man was arrested hopefully will be given the death penalty.

LOL, are you serious? Both Patsy and Jon Benet's finger prints were found in their own kitchen?

I think that police needs to look into what other crimes this man has done in the last ten years.

Wow, I truly thought this case would never be solved.

Me neither. If there really is a DNA match, then that could be it. I always thought the most plausible explanation was that JonBenet died accidentally, perhaps from roughhousing with the older brother, and the parents covered it up to make it look like an intruder was responsible. That would also explain the strange behavior of the parents during the police investigation.

Wow! If this dude turns out to be the real thing, I'll have to eat my words.

I was pretty convinced it was the son and that the mom and dad conspired to cover it up.

"f this person is proven to be the killer of Jon Benet, what will the police and the press have to say to the Ramsey's? If ever parents were crucified by Denver police investigators and by the press, it was the Ramseys! Now what? Will all those who went to the media to proclaim the parents guilty step forward to admit their mistakes and to apologize to all of us for their stupidity? Somehow, I doubt it."

IF he is proven to be the killer.........then you are dead-on right, my friend. Dead-ON right.

Remember Silence of the Lambs?

"You covet what you see."

This suspect may have seen JonBenet and coveted her. Wonder if he attended beauty pageants for little girls.

This has probably already been mentioned on this thread, but it has been reported that there is DNA in the little girl's underwear. It may be that a DNA match will be possible.

It would be quite a blow to all the amateur sleuths in the world if this man's handwriting resembles Patsy Ramsey's.

I heard on FoxNews that he was in jail in Thailand and it was so bad that he confessed to Jon Benet's murder so that he could be brought back to the USA to a USA prison that had to be better than where he was.
