Mac users: Although this article is about expoding batteries on Dell Notebook Computers, the problem is not limited to PCs... Mac Powerbooks and Macbooks have also been hit. See the photos and link at the bottom of the article that I have added. This is a cautionary PING!

If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.

"...bullets zinged past..."
IIRC, they just pop, since they're not contained in a barrel and ignited with the firing cap to propell them. Anyone else want to comment on this? I could be wrong...

But didn't the Mythbusters take this one on? Yeah, they did... with the bullet in the fuse holder myth... and they found that although some did just burst a couple propelled the bullet with a much lower velocity than normal but fast enough to hurt... so it might be possible.

Apple's laptops have had this problem too.
It may have something to do with the high energy density of modern laptop batteries and their less than robust construction.

I guess I missed that episode.
Last year, here in York Country (PA), a man's house in the southern end of the county caught fire, and burned to the ground. He told police and fire personnel that he had over 100,000 round of ammo stored in the basement, with his gun collection. Lots of black powder, too, as he was a reloader. I'm sure that caused some explosions, though. I don't remember any news commentary on the bullets flying around, and although I know the police and fire crews here, where my business is located, I failed to ask that specific question. No one was hurt in the fighting of that fire.
I'll be asking them when I see them, this coming week, what happened.

See my post #13, d. No, I'm not that sure but I seem to remember it being the conventional wisdom. I have well over 40,000 round stored for my various weapons, at my company, but at 56, don't need any such experiments using me as a ginneau pig.
How about using some murderous Hiz-bullshits are ginneau pigs? I'd go for that...

Geee....thats a real thought there...save for the fact all laptops...macs incuded...can blowup due to the nature of there batteries

Thinking about it, it would seem that the casing could be as much of a projectile as the lead when it popped.
Have to keep my eye open for that episode of Mythbusters
