Gibson: Which Poster Here has Never had a Racist or Anti-Semitic Thought?
Aug 3, 2006 | Pinochet

We can all agree that Mel Gibson diplayed extreme stupidity, in making anti-semitic comments infront of a stranger. But the intense campaign in the mass media and on this forum to denounce Gibson, is, frankly, ridiculous. Even many on this forum who defended Trent Lott, have been hysterical in their denunciation of Gibson.

Thinking or saying racist or anti-semitic things is a sin. So is engaging in, or thinking about, extra-marital sex. But given man's fallen nature, such things are common.

People normally express their prejudices to close friends or to family members, not to total strangers. Remember Rev. Billy Graham's infamous private conversation with his close friend, Richard Nixon? Gibson is a stupid man, not an evil man.

I believe that, when labelling a person a "racist" or an "anti-semite", we should look at his long-term record in dealing with blacks or Jews. One or two outrageous comments, in my view, should not make the labels stick. Using such a standard, David Duke and Pat Buchanan qualify as anti-semites. Mel Gibson does not.

The ever sensible Rabbi Daniel Lapin cautioned us all to exercise caution, before labelling individuals. In all his life, Gibson has been very respectful in his dealings with Jews.

"But I don't believe in the bible or gospels or all that other stuff anyway, so I guess the discussion ends on that note."

But... you did ask "who decided that rants are a "sin".

It seems odd that you'd refer to sin if you don't believe in God.

Since the context of your request was sin, what other option is there besides a God who hates sin?

What makes something a sin if there is no standard?

So it's not enough to accept Jesus?

I really don't understand your question because it is way too vague.

Gibson blamed the Jews for the wars. Many Freepers blame illegals for all of America's ills. Is there a real difference?

Uh, yes. First of all, Mel isn't here illegally. Second, illegals DO cause a lot of problems in this country.

But nice try anyway.

Nice twist.

I don't buy into this "sin" stuff in the first place.

I asked the question because it was stated as fact that dissing the Jews is a "sin".

I just wanted to know, who said so?

BTW, how do you know God hates sin? That would mean that God hates, which by all pc definitions, is a sin in itself.

I was raised Catholic, so I had to do the whole Confession thing. I married a Protestant, who was taught that you live your life the best you can, and as long as you accept Jesus and make an effort to please him, you'll be saved because your sins were paid for IN FULL with his sacrifice, and to believe any less than that is to not give full credit to his sacrifice.

Some of these posts seem to have exclusionary clauses to 'your sins are forgiven.'

I do not believe in the gospels or the bible or other such things that preach hellfire and damnation.

Me neither. I believe in everlasting life. Thank you Jesus.

"Me. Never"

What about anti-black thoughts? Ever had them?

I for one am getting tired of all the Gibson coverage. With everyone talking about it, you might forget that there was a real anti-semetic crime last week - the shooting at the Jewish Center.

I agree with you.

I bet the same is true on this site.

It is. Many threads have been posted daily on Mel Gibson yet I have to do a 'keyword search' to read threads relating to the Seattle murders.

Look at how completely bonkers this FReepers gets over her being quoted by some reporter about the Mel Gibson incident.

Remember those heady days of the Dubai Ports deal. How many threads did the pro-UAE side post ? How many threads did the anti-Dubai people post? After a month, the FR was left with just trite Op-Ed articles and silly vanities. The drama played out for months. Months. Rush Limbaugh still can't help but put a dig into the anti-Dubai side on his program.

This story is a few days old. Facts are coming in as we write. It's fresh and new. There's blood in the water to be sure but your vanity serves to chum up the water rather than allow the blood to dissipate.

These current events have a life of their own. How many jokes are told to this day about the Looter Guy, Patrick Kennedy, or Ray Nagen? And we still see threads on stuned beebers. If you don't like what's said, skip it and go onto another topic. One thing is for sure, writing a vanity telling others to LEAVE HIM THE HELL ALONE will only serve to agitate because your "adversaries" are going to wonder who died and left you boss.

"BTW, how do you know God hates sin? That would mean that God hates, which by all pc definitions, is a sin in itself."

Beacause I read the Bible.

Why else would John the Baptist say of jesus, "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world"?

And furthermore, you did make the poing about "ranting" being a sin. You did not ask the question from the context of dissing Jews.

On that matter, consider the following:

Genesis 12 WEB

1 Now Yahweh said to Abram, "Get out of your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you.

2 I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you. All of the families of the earth will be blessed in you."

4 So Abram went, as Yahweh had spoken to him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Not good enough, Raycpa.

And of course, like all good liberals, you have to resort to calling me blind when you cannot back up your argument.

Name one Freeper who has blamed the illegals for all/many of the American's ills. Name one on this thread.

Once again, put up or shut up.

What about anti-black thoughts?

Nope. The only bigoted thoughts that I have are against liberals. I don't consider that particularly bigoted because that is an ideology that they are choosing to believe in. Homosexual propaganda is obnoxious and boring to me but in large part because it usually goes along with liberal propaganda. I am so logical and capitalistic that, well, bigotry seems illogical.

You keep quoting the bible.

I reject the bible as "The Word Of God".

Its nothing more than a compilation of a bunch of stuff that a bunch of monks put together at various points in time.

Hearsay at the very, very best.

I trust in and believe in God.

Humans on the other hand, have been known to lie like rugs.

Here's an idea for you Raycpa:

Why don't you get a bunch of your liberal friends to pose as Freepers and get them to post how the illegals are responsbile for all of America's ills.

Then you could start at least naming some names, however bogus they may be.
