I found one of my dad's old National Geographic magazines, and it had some neat pictures on the crusades that I thought I would share.
Peter Bartholomew, a servent in the Crusader army, told the nobles that St. Andrew had revealed to him the hiding place of the lance that pierced Christ's side at the Crucifiction. Here, after a search beneath the Church of St. Peter, Crusaders gasp as Bartholomew uncovers a corroded lance head. Hope rekindled, the knights broke the Muslim siege the next day.
Braving a Rain of Arrows, Europeans Route the Turks on the Plains of Antioch.
Crusaders Marching Around the Holy City of Jerusalem.
Victorious Crusaders fall to their knees in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

All of these paintings were done by Stanley Meltzoff and were printed in national Geographic Magazine. There were a few other paintings and pictures, but these were my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.

The article was well written, and was fairly neutral, as it should be. Of course, today it would be those evil Caucasian Christians who invaded the Middle East to kill those peaceful Muslims in search of land and loot.

Thanks for posting; great illustrations.
But someday I need to track down a painting of the triumphant Crusaders (1099 AD)
gathered in front of The Dome of The Rock.
It's a truly stunning painting.
I think the caption in the Newsweek article said that it was in The Louvre.
(I wonder if it's still on display...)

Here is a link to the relic known as "The Holy Lance of Longinus!" Returned by the Crusaders it was "owned" by the Holy Roman Emporers of Austro-Hungaria until "taken" by Hitler. Enjoy the read

In view of the outrage over the 50 dead today at Quna, I'll just note that crusaders killed everyone, as a matter of course, when they breached the walls and entered a city like Antioch.

History can be misread as seems to be the case with your analysis of Crusaders' actions at Antioch.
Nevertheless, I can only pray that Israel will not be as gentle with Muslims as most Crusaders were.
