As someone who was (unfairly?) zotted oh so many moons ago because as a n00b I didn't understand the point to which some mods didn't understand sarcasm, I would like to put forward the (perhaps heretical) notion that we shouldn't be quite so quick on the zot.
Recently, a FReeper put forward the notion of a "probationary period" before being allowed to post.
I would argue that as long as the posts are rated "PG" (I understand that this is a family chat board) we should allow ALL viewpoints to be presented here. There are a couple of good reasons:
1) Where ELSE can you have as much fun playing with a liberal? Trying to engage a liberal in debate on the DUmmie board will get you tombstoned.
2) Most of the zotties are simply stupid. Why not try to enlighten them? After all, if churches kicked out all those who weren't already believers, there'd be no new recruits!
3) Love the sinner, not the sin.
4) What do liberals accuse us of the most? "Stifling free speech!" So let's show them that we actually SUPPORT free speech (within the "PG Rated" limits noted above).
Just my two one-hundreths of a dollar...
OMG, that's so funny.... :'D
There is a flaw in your analogy. A majority of the spiritually unredeemed do not suffer from some mental disorder as do liberals.
The practice of zotting is a healthy thing. It is kind of like having leukocytes coursing through the threads.
One of my favorites from The Admin Moderator's Page:
Admin Moderator is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head.
That one had me and my daughter laughing, we read that whole list and we were getting stomach & face cramps from laughing so hard...
It seems the threat level is still at mauve.
Uhm... I don't know what church YOU belong to, but the majority of young people I know who have searched a church were there because their mental model was not working for them.
Now you can accept them and attempt to enlighten them or simply tell them to try the Buddhist temple down the road.
Which way you choose says a lot about you...
Some churches preach about Jesus. Jesus was more than willing to accept the repenting sinner but He never sanctioned the unrepentant.
You didn't get my point. But that is okay. You win. I lose.
And Jesus never said it would be easy.
"None is so blind as he who will not see..."
Do you really think that Jesus and the Apostles set out to only pick the low-hanging fruit?
In an era where Christianity competed against Roman gods, paganism, unbelief, do you really believe that the early Christians simply cast out those who were not easily converted?
According to the history I have read, and I have read far more primary accounts than most, the answer to your question is Yes.
The Scriptures are clear on this matter:
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Mat 10:14
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. Mark 6:11
And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. Luke 9:5
Ping to Hitler kitty!
OK... I'm not going to argue Scripture with you and Knitting.
Continue to harvest the fields that have been plowed for you.
As for me, I come from a family of South American and African Missionaries. My family plows the field that you can come along and harvest...
Matthew 10:15 "Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city."
You may also want to check out II Peter chapter 2 with particular attention given to verses 1 through 6. He didn't spare the angels, or the world, (except Noah), or Sodom and Gomorrha, (except Lot), so your argument is invalid when compared to His Word.
Precisely.
Why not have a little fun with them before we toss them back?
Ever see 'The trouble with tribbles"? (old star trek episode)...They multiply.
Why procrastinate?
Zot 'em.
