Man who beat duck sentenced

Probation and community service for A.C. culprit.

MAYS LANDING, N.J. - An Atlantic City man has been sentenced to three years of probation and community service at an animal shelter for beating a duck.

Donald Chapman pleaded guilty to animal cruelty a few months ago, saying he kicked the mallard and beat it with a broom March 15 in the parking lot of the Fox Chase development he worked at in Galloway Township.

State Superior Court Judge James Isman sentenced Chapman on Friday, warning him against harming any more animals and ordering him to pay $276 for the duck's care. Chapman will have to volunteer at the Atlantic County Animal Shelter in Pleasantville.

"I want him to serve it at the shelter so that he interacts with the animals that have to be euthanized so that he can gain a respect for life," Nancy Beall, president of the Atlantic County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, told the Press of Atlantic City.

Beall's organization retrieved the duck after the beating and took it to the Galloway Animal Hospital for treatment.

The duck is doing well, officials said.

I recommend the death penalty for anyone caught beating his duck, spanking his monkey, or choking his chicken in public.

Don think Nancy Beall is pro-life or pro-choice?

Meanwhile, Chapman can get the duck out of here!

Anyone who tortures animals deserves public stocks.

Kill 'em and eat 'em, sure. But hunters will tell you they want a clean kill and the target shouldn't be made to suffer.

But beat 'em? Just a cruel bully.

Maybe that duck needs to work on his fighting skills and he wouldn't have got beat?

The duck was blindfolded to protect his identity during an interview after the court recessed.

This is all a huge conspiracy by the MSM to try to get lame duck stories in the news to hurt Bush.
