DURHAM, N.C. -- Officials say they are investigating an alleged assault involving Durham police officers outside a Raleigh bar.

It sure does look like that. Golly, I'd love to know what was really behind Cheek's non-campaign.
"Simple assault is a Class 2 misdemeanor, which carries a maximum fine of $1,000 and up to 60 days in jail on a Level 3 conviction -- five or more prior convictions."
Finnerty got 30 days in jail and 6 months' probation for a first offence--yelling back at someone who punched him.
Justice in America.
"We need some "Untouchables" to come in and clean up this mess."
Sorry, the DOJ and the FBI are busy making sure that
muslims are not insulted when Korans are placed on the bottom shelf of a bookstore instead of the top shelf (and hence atop all other books, as they should be).
Rich white preppie students have no civil rights and may be subjected to injustice under any and all circumstances.
(accidently left off from the FBI's homepage)
Note in the 5th to last paragraph confirming cousin "Jakki" being in the "entertainment profession". (Translated: drag queen):
"Jakki, who would only say shes thirtyish, identifies herself as an actress and standup comedian who has performed in several clubs, various commercials, and even in the movies, appearing in Do Not Disturb starring D. L. Hughley, scheduled for release later this year."

Last line of article:
"Nifong's office said he is withholding comment until a news conference set for 10 a.m. Friday."
Nifong is holding a news conference tomorrow?
Will he answer questions?
Any chance of a write-in candidate?
I wonder why Blinco's web site is down?
Hm....
You may should look out the window and see if there's smoke in that direction, Howlin. I wouldn't put it past the bastards...
appearing in Do Not Disturb starring D. L. Hughley, scheduled for release later this year."
Again, they don't check facts very carefully. Maybe a remake of that original? The point is, we have confirmation from a news source of record that Jakki is in fact a male who posed as a female cousin of the alleged victim. We all know it, the Wilmington people and the News & Oberver people know it.
Why was it necessary for them to conceal this fact? While his/her sexual preferences have nothing to do with the facts of the case, they do undermine the credibility of the "bribe offer" of $2 million. They also undermines his/her credibility to the moral people in Durham, if there are any.

More importantly, will be drop the case?
(OK, but I can still hope, can't I?)
See credits under makeup artist....
IMO, the best bet is to urge voters to still cast their ballot for Cheek. He's still on the ballot, and if he chooses not to serve-- no problem -- Nifong would still be out.
Jacqueline Cantwell...
Okay, so this was a sham to keep anybody else from being successful in ousting him. What's in it for Cheek?
Corrupt bastards.
I seriously doubt that is what has happened. If it did, I hope Cheek got it on tape. That would be enough to get Nifong permanently disbarred, even in NC, lol!
Or was Cheek actually a shill helping Nifong by acing out the competition. Monks is a Republican which, from what I understand makes him something like the extinct Dodo bird in terms of Durham politics. So it would have been easy for Cheek, a well known Dem, to suck up the finite number of protest signatures against Nifong that were in play. Then Cheek sucker-punches them by deciding not to run. Quo bono? Nifong.
Unless Cheek's decision not to run really pisses a lot of people off.
A very plausible strategy. IIRC the moneyed duke alums were backing him. That would have drawn their stingers, too. Ringers are put into political races all the time to draw votes from your opponent...
