Prayers for my 24 year old kittie -- (doing much better now)

My kittie "Musica" is 24 years old. Up until now, she has done well but the vet says her thyroid is failing.
She has been with me for almost my entire adult life. She has been on thyroid (and other) medication for the last 6 years but it looks like the medication isn't working any more.
The vet said radiation therapy might work but 24 equates to over a hundred years old in human terms. It would be torture to put her through that. Even a trip to the vet is an ordeal.

See if it would be possible for her to survive the surgery. If it would really help her, go for it. That is providing you can afford it. She may seem sick right now but if it helps her she will feel better later. Is her heart strong? If she dies during surgery you know she would have died any way. If you decide to give her a chance providing it is at all feasible you will know that you did all that you could do. Who knows you may get several more years with her. If you do decide for surgery I am sure the sooner the better. Maybe it is already too late. In any event I believe animals are in heaven, after all we come back with The LORD Jesus Christ riding horses. May the LORD bless you whatever you decide. Will pray for you.

I struggled with the same thing after I lost my 14 year old Lab.
I cried constantly for 2 weeks.
I couldn't stand the emptiness of the house.
I decided my gal primed me for love and I wasn't finished loving.
Adopted 2 orphan dogs.
They didn't replace my beloved Lab...They are their own personalities.
They helped me through the grief and delivered me to love again.

You have my heartfelt prayers. We had to put our dog down last week and it was THE hardest thing ever.
I don't know about Heaven for animals, I really don't. I DO, however, wish it were so. He DOES say the lion will lie down with the lamb...
Do what's best for that kitty...not you. I know that it's hard to say goodbye, but if your baby will be better off...
Many many prayers...

Wow! Your cat is a great age!
If nothing else, please pray for a heaven that includes our beloved pets.
I would imagine there is, any conscious being must have a soul, and because there is no such thing as sin or free will with an animal, at least not free will as we would understand it, there would only be an animal Heaven - there wouldn't be a Hell.
Anyway, prayers sent.

I have heard, and choose to believe, that heaven will have everything that makes us happy. Since I believe I will be happy to have the presence of my beloved pets with me in heaven, I KNOW that pets are allowed there!
I will pray for you, your wife, and your beloved kitty. Heaven open it's gates for her, and God's arms comfort you and yours when the time comes for kitty to go home. I will pray that kitty doesn't suffer pain, and that when her time comes, she knows your family loves her and that you give her your blessing to pass so she doesn't suffer any anxiety in making the transition.
Bless you all for loving her so much.

My Mom was always terrified that her favorite dog would die before her, so we planned that if he did, we would go right away to the animal shelter and adopt a puppy. Going from something to complete nothing is so hard.
Perhaps you could consider this too. It wouldn't be the same cat, but at least could help a bit.
Blessings to you.

I am overwhelmed with the responses from everyone.
Thank you so much. Musica thanks you, too!
I just had a good talk with her and told her she needs to get that thyroid under control.
She gave me a standard cat answer :)
Mrs. FR also sends her thanks

Poor Kittie...
I love cats....
My friend loves cats and has had to have a couple of her cats euthanized.
One of them a few years ago ...and friend tears up when she talks about cats that are now gone.
They can call cat people crazy...I don't care.
She got a couple of cats this past December after another one of her cats got very sick with irritable bowel syndrome and had to be euthanized.
The house was bleak without cats.
She gets her cats from groups like P.A.W.S.
One cat was found wandering around covered with paint and infested with fleas and ear mites.
Another frequented dumpster around nursing home.
The two cats she has now ...their mom was ferel /stray and gave birth on somebodys front porch.
She gives cats good home.
Otherwise they would have had a short cruel life or a long cruel life.
Cats are very good company.
You have my sympathies
