The Dragonflies Lair~Thread XXIX

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Between Dark and Dawn

That moment,
just before the clock rattles it chimes,
shattering the dawn with responsibilities,
is the best of times.

Warm, snug,
under embracing covers, like old friends,
your head cradled by a thoughtful pillow,
dreaming of what fate does send.

Weary and spent,
you and sleep, like verses in a rhyme,
share time and find common destinies,
the experience quite sublime.

Hiding from day’s tug,
upon the covers and our mind,
we snuggle deeper in the comforter,
seeking just a moment more with sleep to bind.

Exquisite poem. A keeper for sure.

I am loving your approach to writing these days.

Beginning with -That moment, then jumping to the next line, stirs interest and immediate anticipation of what will follow.

Imprinted

I saw the desert from the plane
the images still remain
set like wrinkles in permanent press
like giant wandering sand serpents
laid down with valleys deep
between the mounds

It was awesome indeed
to know sometimes a tiny seed
may fall upon that barren ground
and blossom full and deep and round.

Bundle of bliss: The bent ear. The finger nook. Stop it, Nala, you're killing us with your 3-month-old leonine cuteness. And as for you, Regina Hamza, lion keeper at Serengeti Safari Park in Hodenhagen, Germany, you have one great job.

Big game hunting in Cleveland Heights, Ohio: Birds can't see you if you don't move -- or at least that seems to be the working theory here.

Spread eagle: Gabby takes off from the gauntleted hand of keeper Claudia Biancai at a park overlooking Sydney Harbor. The wedge-tailed eagle, Australia's largest bird of prey, is training to star in the zoo's daily bird shows.

Contemplative Summer

Shifting patterns sift across the lake
as the wind dances to an eternal tune
pushing clouds about as if in a game

Each day of this summer is never the same
shaped by moments to the cry of the loon
we take each for its gifts and for its sake
