My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Sometimes it so hard
doing the day to day
when the world ups and hits you
just when you think your ok
there's dues you gotta pay
no matter what you try so hard to do
and so your left to feel fey
play'n what's dealt from life's cards

Stay safe!
Thanks, I will. Typhoons (assuming you're not at sea!) usually have more bark than bite. The biggest danger is, if you go outside, you might get hit by some object flying in the strong winds. So staying indoors is the best bet!

Wow, this typhoon was so lame I apparently already missed it! Looks like it already passed through in the south, and is now on its way to China. There's just lots of rain now in its wake:
TAIPEI, Taiwan(AP) - Typhoon Kaemi lashed Taiwan with heavy rains and strong winds Tuesday, disrupting traffic and causing power outages before churning across the Taiwan Strait toward storm-battered China. ADVERTISEMENT Kaemi was about 40 miles west of Taiwan and had weakened slightly with 78-mph winds as it moved toward southern China, the Central Weather Bureau said. China ordered emergency preparations ahead of the typhoon, while hard-hit parts of the nation's south were still cleaning up from an earlier typhoon that killed more than 600 people. The storm made landfall in southeastern Taiwan and roared toward the Taiwan Strait before dawn Tuesday through the southwestern county of Chiayi, the Weather Bureau said.

Good news! The May 2006 DoD report thread has finally pulled into port with a total of 1009 views! Not bad. Plus, there're lots of other threads getting the good news out of Iraq,
like this one. Now I can wait for the August report and look it over when I'm in Thailand. Any special requests for what kind of info you think would be most stimulating for people to read from the report, just let me know!

Excellent poem! I'm glad it was well received, but sorry it didn't win. Wow! 20,000 smackers! You big time poets really play for keeps. $20,000 would have bought fuel for your jet for at least two weeks! Oh, well, easy come, easy go!

The mundane and the madness
if we had nothing, but joy
would we be satisfied?
We would grouse about all the joy
the human condition demands some
down time to enjoy the blues
the everyday blandness of ordinary life
cause, we humans can't take too much,
mundane, too much joy, too much of poor,
we're fickle as a fleeting breeze
looking for good fortune on every little wind ripple
We need a certain quest for adventure in our souls
that keeps us green to look in those little treasure coves
for the little gems buried neath the silt, we sift
going through everyday life.

Yes, I'm winding up all the loose ends. The final tax certificate is taking longer than expected. And I had to go back to the original town I opened my bank account in because they left a signature verification section blank on these little bank books they use here in Taiwan.
That was actually pretty cool, the midpoint between here and there is also the midpoint between here and the capital city, so on a whim, after I was done with the banking business, I jumped the bus to the capital and made all my usual rounds. Lots of fun.
I'm looking forward to living there next spring, but for now I'm blocking that out and just thinking of Thailand. In the capital I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean II. It was OK, the special effects were cool. But there was no story at all, just a series of funny action/stunt scenes that the characters go through, then it suddenly ends. The special effects were worth the ticket price, but I don't recommend spending the time to watch that movie, just had no real purpose to it.

Doh! How often does a juicy prize like that come around on the poetry circuit? I bet not often. Do you have to be a published author to get an invite to those affairs?

No, anyone can enter. The work one offers must be unpublished, however.
I am known as an amateur poet to the publishing world.
This is open to the public, take a crack at it Starbase. They have a contest three times a year.
