My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

I will endeavor to rise to "mini-series"-like levels of entertainment for The Lair!
First step is to buy a cheapy little digital camera as a picture is worth a thousand words!

This is an awesome poem. The imagery is both starkly believable, and clearly comes to you very naturally.
It's obvious the author of this poem knows what he's talking about.

Well it looks like I might scoot out of Taiwan quicker than I thought. I was thinking it might be relaxing to hang out a week or so, but in fact, Taiwan is a major dump.
It's so ugly and industrial there's really nothing fun about it, it's just a good place to work. And it got boring exponentially faster than I thought it would. I have a reservation for a ticket on Wednesday (a day and a half from now), so that will be the end of my posting for quite some time until I have a new setup in Thailand.
Even buying the ticket was weird (well it's just a reservation right now). Here in Asia, probably only Japan has a truly modern economic model. Everyone else has this lingering "fish market" mentality, where they want to haggle and argue. It's so weird and annoying, and I keep forgetting to do it.
Their reactions make me nervous. When I made the reservation I casually mentioned that since I don't keep a US address anymore therefore I don't have credit cards, so I'd pay in cash (that's better right? you have the money right there). Well, suddenly, the chick's eyes got excited and creepy and she said "You have no credit cards?". I've found they try to make you repeat things you've already told them then they appear to be believing that it was their superior skills that got the "information" out of you. So they pointedly ask you what you just got done saying to them then act like they've "scored" somehow.
I guess I can't say exactly what attracted that reaction. When I was here 15 years ago Chinese scorned credit cards. Chinese are big savers, and really stress having a bundle of cash in their hand, so flashing a credit card immediately made someone look like a false pretender to past generations of Chinese. But I wouldn't be surprised if now they've learned from us and having credit cards is now some kind of status symbol here. Strange, because not too long ago it was the exact opposite.
But it's just creepy because they act like something exhilarating is happening and you're really just making a nothing everyday purchase. But I just remind myself "Look, whatever weird status value certain comments may have in this culture, still, they can't do anything, I can buy the ticket anywhere, or I could just go to the airport and buy the ticket there".
I could tell many creepy-to-stupid stories about very common financial transactions I've had here in Asia, but I don't want to use up my book material. I think that will be a chapter in my book, maybe "Chapter 4:Creepy Ways to Buy Everyday Things".
Anyway, the job ended on a surprising note, a special dinner with me as guest of honor. It really ended in a way that makes for a better book ending than I would have been able to think up myself! I'll touch on it before I go and leave you with a few teasers.
But if I really head out Weds, that means I just have this afternoon and tomorrow to settle everything (have a few loose ends to tie up), then the next morning I'll be on the bus to the airport (4 hour drive), Yippy!
I'll swing by again before I split.
Cheers,
starbase

Thank you for the kind words on my poem, I can honestly say experience is the basis for the poems I write to a great degree. I've lived a life filled (in my earlier days), with LIFE!, I've seen, done, and lived so much others were satisfied just to read about. In a way, I'm sorry for them, for they too could have taken different paths and lived fuller lives. I guess thats why I find your present adventures so interesting, for they echo those of mine long ago. Take care and remember all of here at the Lair, wondering what your up to!!!!!!!!!

Crap!
Here comes another typhoon! (scroll down to see radar) Typhoons flitter around here a lot this time of year. Sometimes you can see
two of them out over the ocean on the radar.
Might put off my departure, due to hit Wednesday. Plus the business is having trouble wrapping up my tax certificate. Seems I overpaid, and may get back enough to cover my round trip ticket to Thailand! Well, I won't say no to that!
Final departure date: Unknown!

Good morning, afternoon, evening to all!
Your wandering hostess has landed safely in The Dragonflies' Lair.
I have been in Las Vegas competing again. Alas, sadly, I did not win this year.
I will post the poem I read to fifty poets and Judges a little later today.
Hope you are all well, as Thank You, for continuing to post you wonderful poetry and Starbase, your adventures in Asia.
Tomkow, did you miss me??
It was a long flight and I am beat! I had a marvelous time and I am so grateful to be home FReeping again.

Yupper, I was looking for one of your minds.
I got caught up in turbulence, delayed flights and no sleep for days. What day is it? I was evicted from my hotel room before 11:00 am, found temporary shelter in a chair in the woman's room which I claimed for my own until, flight time at 11:PM last night. Man, I am bushed.
To: bentfeather
At least you got home!

I missed you, Lady 'feather, (I know its sappy),
for your sparkle was gone from the place,
and we wondered if you were happy,
somewhere with a smile on your face.
Unsure if you were aware of the reputation
of that place you'd gone is known by
why some think its the very Devil's exaltation
where naughty folks, their needs free to fly.
But now your home and we breathe a sigh,
and relax a bit from unspoken doubts,
sad to hear you lost this time, so again to try,
and one day to win, and a trophy to flout!
