Durham County had 4 prossie arrests in 2002, zero in 2003. There were 2 Sex offenses arrests in 02, 5 in 03.
None of these arrests were by the Durham PD.
Many of our cops work various other security jobs. It was always my first guess that the security lady at Kroger's was likely an off-duty or retired cop. (I still think so.)
According to Kim's statement, she went to Kroger's to ...
"seek the help of an off duty police officer.. Only a security guard was there so we proceeded to call 911"...Which "off duty police officer" was she looking for and why? Maybe she knows one who would have given her a break and taken the AV off her hands... Like I asked before... If she wanted a cop why not drop her off at the police station.
She calls 911, takes 25 minutes to drive a couple miles, stops at a Kroger, only to call 911 again.
phoo!
I think the security guard called 911--and remeber Ms Kimmy told cops she'd found CGM walking on the road. She wanted nothing to do with her.
The way this all played out... with Kim going to Kroger's looking for her favorite cop and the AV crying rape when she's about to be blood tested and committed... They must have the pimp handbook memorized for just these types of emergencies...
It also makes one wonder how many other "all night safe havens" are designated though out Durham, staffed with off duty cops / protectors / clean up crews...
You're right. We haven't seen all the photos yet.
For all Nifong's talk about HIS timeline, I think he is locked in. The most time he has for this supposed rape to occur is 21 minutes (between 12:04 and 12:26) and there may be more photos that narrow that down further.
During this time Reade has a virtually ironclad alibi and I think Collin does as well.
Another thing that cuts down on the 21 minutes for the supposed assault is the time Kim and the accuser spent locked in the bathroom. In her handwriten statement Kim refers to "finally" coming out of the bathroom, implying they were in there for some significant period of time. Even if they were only in there for 5 minutes that cuts 21 minutes down to 16, and 10 minutes cuts it to 11 minutes.
Basically, I think Nifong's goose is cooked and I don't see what possible timeline he can produce that can put the three indicted players in that bathroom with the accuser.
I think you're on to something there...
Do I have this wrong? Didn't Kimmy claim not to know CGM initially? After they pried CGM from her car, did she drive off? How di they track her down or did she come forward?
Yes. Kim claims she did not know the accuser prior to that night. Probably when the police arrived they took some kind of report and got her name or her car's license number.
Or they may have tracked her down through her escort service. IIRC, Kim said her escort service first notified her of the allegations that were being made and that the police would want to talk to her.
Somewhere in my not always perfect memory, I seem to recall a statement that I think may have been made by boys that the girls were in the bathroom about 20 minutes. Anyone else recall this? That would fit perfectly with the end of the dance around 12:05-ish, girls to the bathroom, Crystal calls the service at 12:26 (do I have that time right?), Crystal needs a ride so she and Kim go to the car, Crystal realizes she left her shoe, etc., goes back to look for the shoe, falls down the back steps, and so on and so forth.
(Seems silly to call them "boys" and "girls"... but it works.)
I think you're right. I think it was somewhere around 20 minutes and they had to make a pretty big effort to get them out - banging on the door, slipping money under the door etc.
This is clearly the time period when Seligmann left. I think Finnerty may have already been gone.
When Kim and the accuser finally came out of the bathroom I think that's when the argument about money started. The neighbor heard that going on in the 12:30am range.
So it all falls together pretty well.
Ping. Some new articles this morning...

John in Carolina's makes the point in his blog that until the NandO whipped up the hysteria and stampeded Nifong into action, he thinks the thing would have gone away.
From the blog yesterday
It was the N&Os Mar. 25 story that took what should have been a thorough and judicious investigation of reported crimes and turned it instead into the hysteria fueled witch hunt thats afflicted our community and caused immeasurable damage to many innocent people, the final reckoning of which well not know for many years.
I have no brief for DA Mike Nifong who I think should be removed from office. But he didnt go public about the case until the afternoon of Mar. 27. That was after the N&O had poisoned the publics mind against the players and inflamed the community. Nifong followed where the N&O had led.

Abb, I hope it was you who posted the data on Durham's prostitution non-arrest rate over there. Otherwise, someone took credit for your work here.
Technically, the hysteria began BEFORE the N&O: Duke professors, and activist students and professors. N&O covered their screeching, violent outbursts. Professors were using the classrooms to preach against the Duke Players. It was the height of offal behavior.
Yes, that is what she claimed, initially.
ltc and jezebelle raised an interesting possibility of what haooened to a tox screen by reviewing the AV lengthy criminal record I am not sure whether the tox report being attached to an earlier crime/probation order is sufficient to warrant it being excluded from being turned over to the defense, but it is certainly another reason for the defense to rattle Nifong's cage.

So Cheek is hesitant, and "his political career is at stake".
Whoope-de-doo. It's not like he is going to run for President, or even Governor. He's a County Commissioner, for Pete's sake. I guess even at that low level of politics, people are more concerned about their political future than for what is the right thing to do. Does anyone ever run for office any more based solely on their own convictions?
