Broward County schools' progressive policy on transgendered children will be tested by the admission to kindergarten this fall of a boy who believes that he's a girl.

One little girl entering Broward County kindergarten this fall is actually a boy.
Few will know this genetic truth, because the 5-year-old's parents and school administrators have agreed that it's in his best interest to blend in as a female.
Mental health professionals have diagnosed Pat -- not his real name -- with gender dysphoria, a condition in which a person believes that he or she is the opposite gender. After two years of examination, they have determined that he is not simply effeminate or going through a phase.

God may not make "mistakes", but God does make a lot of babies whose anatomical features are either partially or fully mismatched to their genetic make-up, and also makes quite a lot whose genetic make-up is neither XX nor XY. However, there's nothing in this article to suggest that this child falls into either of those categories.
That's the problem! The mother has a "masters degree in counseling". What the heck is that?
She isn't acting like a mother. The parents are messing with this child's head too much. They are warping him and will turn him into a mess for the rest of his life. But, more importantly, they will "feel good" about how hard they tried to help him. They'll never take responsibility for how he turns out.

Effeminate?? Apparently she was still a girl. How did the adults around her mess her up and encourage the behavior, one wonders.
The problem is today alot of Parents really think their children are gay when they even just try out things for the first time. Awhile back i was dating a single mother. Her son was relly intereste in his mothers makeup and clothes and the kid was three. She kept asking me if I thought her son was gay. I said no and I gave him a stick and told him it was a sword. He never looked back now his mother is worried her son is a Pirate.
I didn't read weegee's comment to flame the boy, but rather as a commentary on the ludicrousness on part of the school authorities when they accepted this "belief".
IMO, the boy has some serious problems, which may be physical (such as chemical imbalance) or may be purely psychological. I am not qualified to even hazard a guess.
But I also think that accepting this type situation in the school is damaging to many of the students, creating even more confusion over physical gender and gender identity amongst those who are not already afflicted.
Yes I agree with you. And if there was a genetic/ physical problem I would understand allowing a child to choose which sex he/she most identified with. But as you say this does not seem to be so in this instance. So in my mind the experts and the parents are abusing this child.

If I were a parent in any of the BC schools, I'd sue to PROTECT my little girl from sharing a restroom with a boy.
The elementary schools parade them in neat rows to and from the bathroom after lunch, between classes, etc ; it's NOT private in any way.

Children role play all the time. And most parents can see their children through this. It is a normal part of growing up. And the path can easily be worked out. I have sympathy for this little boy. He needs guidance, not psychospeak.

I do to. There are some rare mistakes in nature where biologically both sex organs partially develop and I can see a heart wrenching dilemma for parents of such kids. Sometimes either or choices have to be made and at that point I think body chemistry should be the major factor. Something in this case {obviously non Morphodite origin} tells me someone has messed with this kids mind. I haven't seen a 5 or 6 year old yet worry about their sexuality except the natural healthy curiosities. I'm not buying this.
