GENDER IDENTITY: 5-year-old 'girl' starting school is really a boy
The Miami Herald ^ | July 10, 2006 | Roberto Santiago

Posted on 07/10/2006 11:32:19 AM PDT by rightinthemiddle

Broward County schools' progressive policy on transgendered children will be tested by the admission to kindergarten this fall of a boy who believes that he's a girl.

BY ROBERTO SANTIAGO rsantiago@MiamiHerald.com

One little girl entering Broward County kindergarten this fall is actually a boy.

Few will know this genetic truth, because the 5-year-old's parents and school administrators have agreed that it's in his best interest to blend in as a female.

Mental health professionals have diagnosed Pat -- not his real name -- with gender dysphoria, a condition in which a person believes that he or she is the opposite gender. After two years of examination, they have determined that he is not simply effeminate or going through a phase.

He "believes" he's a girl. Does he also still believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the moon being made of cheese, and dreaming of being a superhero when he grows up?

Yeah. This little SOB is part of the F'n Homosexual Conspiracy! I say we make him a girl For Real!! /sarcasm

You're flaming a 5-yo kid who sounds legitimately screwed up. I'm really not prepared to blame him for a damned thing. I feel sorry for him.

That said, I have to suspect that some of the people who've glommed on to this case have done so for political reasons. To them, the kid is a pawn.

I thought liberals believed gender idenity was a social construction. Which is it?

Next we'll have species dysphoria. "My kid thinks he's a dog. We keep him out in the backyard and feed him puppy chow."

How could this be possible with a child? If they have the genitals that they are born with, wouldn't that be accepted in due course?

And how would he know? He's 5 years old! Unless the parents have been performing some exceptionally cruel acts on him, he really isn't old enough to understand the technical differences between a man and a woman.

A five year old only knows what they have been taught. Parents must have wanted a girl.

In the absence of clear anatomical or genetic evidence that a child is not a physiologically normal male OR female, 5 years old is simply ludicrously early to be making such concessions to psychological symptoms. It's good that the plan includes a gender-neutral name and gender-neutral clothing, but they ought to be treating him like a normal boy and letting him play at being a girl to his heart's content -- and making sure he knows it's regarded as play. At least give the normal gender-specific social pressures of kindergarten a CHANCE to work.

Benowitz said that two years ago -- at a Broward high school she declined to name -- she was called in after a group of boys beat up another student, whom they believed to be an effeminate boy. In fact, the victim was transgendered -- a biological female who looked, dressed and behaved like a male. Benowitz was brought in to counsel the administrators, the students and the victim.

What is Benowitz hiding? Why so skittish about naming the high school? There have been so many instances of faked hate crimes in recent years, I think it's incumbent upon her to provide evidence that this occurred, especially since she is integral to the story.

"Gender dysphoria can take place during a fetus' development in the womb,'' said noted gender specialist and sexologist Marilyn Volker, Ph.D., of Miami.

''In addition to behaving like the opposite sex, a person with gender dysphoria naturally relates to the opposite sex,'' Volker said. ``They also have a persistent and recurring discomfort with their own external body parts and genitalia because it does not match their internal gender identity. Simply said, they were born into the wrong body.''

Well in that case just lop off a few of those wrong parts. Buy the kid a Glamour Barbie and an easy bake oven and viola problem solved.

Except of course that God does not make mistakes. This little boy is meant to be just what he is a little boy. To mutilate him either physically and/or psychologically is a very grave offense against God and nature. The sin that these " experts" are commiting is a very true example of placing a millstone around a little one's neck. Woe to them.

I can't believe that video. I loved at the end when the He/She was complaining about Simon and said that all American's are racists and prejudiced. |

Get a clue Simon isn't an American

After two years of examination, they have determined that he is not simply effeminate or going through a phase.

Really? Extensive? Not a phase? Only 2 years of 'testing' tacitly reinforcing the notion? But he's 5!! He hasn't even entered the next developmental stage. My friend's daughter, envious of her close-age older brother, would only wear his hand me downs and boys underwear until she was about 6. The school insisted, rightly, that she dress as a girl. The doctors they consulted all concluded it was a 'stage' and she needed a less competitive relationship with her brother (mom's job) and more one on one time with her dad (who traveled extensively for business). And now, at 10, she's clearly outgrown the stage, and the whole family has benefitted. I shudder to think how different things would be if they had just dressed and treated this lovely young lady as a boy.
