Jay Leno kicks around Hulk Hogan.
I like soccer but not the acting...
Nice job of the WC 2006 threads my friend. I enjoyed every bit of it.
was elected the best looking fan by Gazzetta dello Sport :-)
Thanks for all the threads.
Cheers.
"Shocked at Zidane's actions - never seen him act like that before."
Zambrotta who played with Zidane at Yuventus says that he had a hot temper at Yuventus.
Anger, hatred and rage made him do it. Either that or muhammed made him do it.
Brava Italia!
I've been out of town for the last couple of days but I was able to watch the third place game and the final in a hotel room. I stopped in St Louis on my way back home to get something to eat, and the World Cup was all over the front page, and it was ALL OVER the sports page. The Cardinals were an afterthought.
But check this out - as I'm sitting there munching on my whopper and reading all about soccer in an American newspaper, I could have sworn I heard the guy behind me reading something about "Ronaldo" and "Scolari" to his girlfriend. I turned around, and sure enough, there were this guy and a girl, hunched over a newspaper, reading about the World Cup. I got to talking to them and it turns out they're newbie soccer fans who just started watching this tournament. You should have seen these guys - it was like watching children who have just been given a new toy on Christmas. For me it was like remembering all over again seeing the England - Ireland match in 1990 and wondering "where has THIS been all my life??"
I'm telling you my friend, soccer will flow through American veins en masse, and it will happen sooner rather than later.
I don't know if you've seen this or not, but after giving up trying to find it a few years ago I just found the magical Three Lions video from 1996.
And finally please add me to the soccer ping list if I'm not already on it. Thanks :)
"Italy defender Marco Materazzi has denied a report that he had called Zinedine Zidane a 'dirty terrorist' seconds before the French captain head-butted him in Sunday's World Cup final. 'It is absolutely not true, I did not call him a terrorist."
I wonder, if Zidane hasn't spoken on what happened or what Materazzi might have said to him, where does this information that Materazzi called Zidane a "dirty terrorist" comes from?
Me thinks Zidane had another of his usual temper tantrums. In my lifetime of playing football semi-professional, coaching youth leagues and refering for 12 1/2 years (last 2 years as a national referee) with the NYS Soccer Referee Association, I have never seen such behavior.
Zambrotta says he had a similar hot temper while with Yuventus. I believe him, as Zidane in the many Yuventus games I've watched always had a somber mood.
No matter what Materassi might or might not have said to him, his behavior is the most ungentlemanly and unforgivable, especially with tens of millions of kids watching the match.
Shame on him!
"...it was like watching children who have just been given a new toy on Christmas."
Soccer: the sport that brings back the child in you.
Soccer: life is not complete without it.
Strange that I made similar comments as above on another site.
About the WORLD CHAMPIONS ITALY?
That race?
Scumbag Zidane is like every other member of the Eurotwit world.
Liberal media will attempt to rewrite history and explain that Materazzi 'deserved' being head-butted by the a$$hole.
I would have taken Zidane out of the game and denied him the Golden Ball award.
Only a Eurotwit with tortured values could nuance that manner of idiocy.
Look to The Al Qaeda Times to get in on the moral rewrite because there is no greater friend to Eurotwits, and less to just punishment, than the terrorist-appeasing Al Qaeda Times.
To hell with the dirty terrorist Zidane.
Come to think of it, Zidane attacked Materazzi in a cowardly, underhanded manner EXACTLY as would a 'dirty terrorist', particularly a French one.
First, I'm talking about the behavior of the team...what is that, twenty guys or so?
Second, "Italian" isn't a race, it's a nationality.
Troll on.
You are insisting I remind you incessantly that the WORLD CHAMPION ITALIANS reign supreme.
You MUST be a masochist. Or French.
From the UK Times:
Amid the furore, one unpalatable truth has been lost that Zidane has acted in this way before - as a record of 14 sending-offs in his career testifies. And as Varraud has recalled, his protégés first weeks at Cannes were spent mainly on cleaning duty as a punishment for punching an opponent who had mocked his ghetto origins.
Perhaps the only person unsurprised by Zidanes final fall from grace was the French rock singer, Jean-Louis Murat, who prophetically encapsulated the essence of one of his heroes, a street fighter from a Marseilles council block who could play football with god-like grace.
Nobody knows if Zidane is an angel or demon, Murat said several years ago. He smiles like Saint Teresa and grimaces like a serial killer.
Unbelievable weasels are the French, and particularly Algerians.
So what is the 'acceptable' response to a headbutt?
A bomb?
I'm actually a fan of the Polish twins from what I hear of them. I might wish that they were a little more free-market-oriented, as I think Poland is in a good position at the moment.
I do feel sorry for the Poles when it comes to the football field. They're usually one of the first to qualify for the Cup and usually one of the first ones out, too. :(
A pole is top scorer of the WM.
I gonna buy an original zidane shirt - no matter what it costs.
lol he's published a press release some days before the finals that he did NOT kick in the doors of the changing rooms in leipzig after the game against korea.
