In 2004, when Apple Computer showed off its latest ``cat,'' Tiger, it couldn't help but taunt Microsoft.
The Redmond, Wash., software giant was working on its long-awaited next-generation Windows operating system, Vista, known then as ``Longhorn.'' During Apple's annual developer's conference in San Francisco, when its Tiger operating system was unveiled, the company jabbed at its mighty competitor with posters that read: ``Redmond, start your photocopiers,'' ``Introducing Longhorn'' and ``Redmond, we have a problem.''
In roughly the same time frame that Microsoft has labored over Vista -- its predecessor, Windows XP, was launched in 2001 -- Apple is on the verge of rolling out its fourth Macintosh operating system.
Microsoft, meanwhile, has delayed the release of Vista until early next year.

Where did I say he was employee? Your not comprehending what you are reading. Like I implied...He is a die hard Apple fan. What I saw happen with his mac's was my observation. He would never attack Apple...Apple people are like that. He has never in his life even owned a PC. He is pretty excited about the prospect of being able to due boot to windows with the new intel based mac's. After all the software selection is pretty nill compared to PC. In searching for DVD authoring programs you had to shell out some pretty big bucks for any good programs for Apple(not much in the $100.00 range)... Yeah I know that Apple comes with software for that. But its features are limitted.

Perhaps because his perception of what occurred vastly differs from your own. Meaning that you observed what you wanted to see, and remembered what you wanted to remember.

I have used PCs, worked with PCs, guided people to buying PCs over Macs - because I'm aware of the first rule of computing... It is the user experience that matters, not the platform.

We're all excited over this. We're even more excited over the prospect of virtualization. No dual booting, but running multiple operating systems in parallel.

Idiot's argument. It only matters that the software you use is available for your platform. Who cares if there are thousands of software titles that you'd never use available.

DVD video authoring software is free with the consumer Macs. DVD burning software for data recording is built into the OS.

Really? Limited? As opposed to the free software for Windows? If you want more capable software for either Windows or Macs, you have to shell out money.
When you said your friend was "with Apple". I also understood that to mean he was employed by Apple because that is the common English language usage of the word "with". When a person is said to be "with" a company, that generally means the person is employed by the company.

As for my opinion of Mac OS 8 vs Windows 98 - Mac had the superior user interface. Windows had better multitasking. For me, a good user interface is the top priority.

Windows 98 was only better in one way, preemptive multitasking.
Well MSFT invested a ton on Longhorn and then scrapped it. Vista is just a different face on NT.

True, but Vista really is a beast of a different stripe. It will be released, and it should be very interesting to see what MSFT cooked up. I'm expecting something several orders better than their past operating systems.
Longhorn was an ambitious transitional OS. Kind of like Apple's Copland OS before Apple scrapped it and went with NeXT's code base and BSD.
My only concern with MSFT is if they'll be expanding their new licensing model in Vista.
