Woman Accused Of Sex W/ Student Severely Beaten
KUTV-2 Salt Lake City ^ | July 3, 2006

KUTV) SOUTH JORDAN A former high school teacher accused of having sex with a student was severely beaten inside her home.

Thirty-year-old Melinda Lee Deluca told police she came home Friday afternoon and was alone when she was jumped from behind. Police said she was beaten so badly that she was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital from her home in South Jordan.

Deluca was recently accused of having sex with one of her students at Copper Hills High School in West Jordan. Police believe the assault could be related to the charges.

“It does appear that this is related to the incident in West Jordan with her teaching position at Copper Hills High School," said Lt. Matt Evans with the South Jordan Police Department. "It doesn't appear to be a random event.”

"I hope they find out who did it and I hope they put them away. Underage or not – nobody deserves anything like this,” said one neighbor who didn’t want to be identified.

Police are not saying wether the two suspects were men or teenage boys.

What if she's not guilty?

I am not condoning this assault, the people who this should of course be prosecuted. I am merely saying that while some here see encounters between female teachers and male students as relatively harmless in comparison with male teachers and female students, apparently others see both as being a serious offense and the adult as a predator.

Hi All-

The actions of the teacher are reprehensible and she needs to be punished by the courts. Darkwolf377 is 100% correct in how the crime impacts a teenaged girl as compared to a teenaged boy are entirely different. This young male will be fine and won't suffer ill effects from having had sex with his attractive teacher. The person/people who violently attacked her in her home should be caught and prosecuted.

So did I.

I too am of mixed minds over this
- I do not countenance violence against women
- I tend to agree that there is a difference between men with underage girls and women with underage boys

However, the over ridding issue is the teacher/student relationship. That is what should be the major issue.

Aw, who cares about a little adultery anymore.

The conservative version of being PC is pretending that there is no difference between a man seducing an underage girl, and a boy being seduced by an attractive adult woman.

Sorry, folks--there is a difference, any straight male knows it, and getting on one's high horse and pretending there isn't doesn't change that.

Rational thought like this based on reality cannot be tolerated.

No, that's what you want me to mean--that's what YOU mean. Have the common courtesy to not lie about what I mean and pretend you have some knowledge of what I mean, please. If you want to characterize what I mean, have the balls to say as much and stand by your assertion; don't lie.

It's obvious that people have a need to characterize reality to conform with their moral interpretations of that reality.

But it's dishonest.

When one puts forth the simple truth that there IS a difference, there is the panicked rush to characterize, to explain what the person REALLY means when he merely reports simple truths.

That shouldn't be the case on a site that supposedly talks about reality, as opposed to liberal spin.

I've worked with more teens and younger kids who've been molested or raped than I would wish anyone to have to deal with, and I know there are many, many more in my field who have dealt with MANY more than that.

Girls can be ruined for life when a man seduces or rapes them; in some ways if he makes her think she is conplicit in her own victimizing, it's worse than if she were simply raped.

I've never, ever encountered a boy who was similarly traumatized by early sex with a woman. Do such boys exist? I imagine they do. But I've never met one. I HAVE, in life, met many, MANY men who brag about such situations, In my work I've met men and boys molested and raped by men. If you met these victims, you, too, would see the simple, explicit fact that there IS a difference.

But it makes too many people uncomfortable to confront the reality that their angelic little boys might actually LIKE having sex with an attractive older woman. Boys are, rightly or wrongly, intensely nervous about their being with a woman, and when a woman shows them how it's done, it is a situation that can often make boys feel good, and a situation they think of fondly.

Am I condoning this? Hell, no. But does it happen? Yup. Is it the same as when a girl us used and traumatized? Hell, no.

And to claim otherwise is either being willfully ignorant of simple reality, or wanting to smear the messenger because you don't like the message.

Well put. I don't have the experience like you do, but believe what you have written puts it clearly and succintly.

P.S.

I hasten to add this, because I've seen how people here love to twist things they're uncomfortable with, instead of addressing the actual points made.

Cases like this ALL need to be looked into, and where appropriate, criminal action needs to take place. Like it or not, we have to look at EACH situation. In this particular case I have no access to court records, police records, etc. Neither does anyone here. This woman may very well deserve to ahve the book thrown at her, and be sent to jail.

Not every boy welcomes these advances, and if not, they should be respected just as every girl's wishes should be.

Personal beliefs and morals and biology all come into the equation; different female and male attitudes, etc. Someone accused me of being a libertine; I'm not. No unwanted sexual contact should be tolerated, period.

But I'm pointing out that there IS a difference by and large between a man and a girl and a woman and a boy. Anyone denying this--that a man won't BRAG about being with a woman as a boy, and a woman won't be permanently, negatively affected about being raped as a girl--ain't dealing with reality, but with what they WISH was reality.

Another glaring example of the US courts double standards towards men and women in these matters.

If it was a 31 year old man, and a 16 year old girl whom he had sex with, AND supplied drugs and booze too, he'd be behind bars for years.

But she's out walking the streets a free woman.

It seems the consensus here is that this attack was retribution for corrupting a stereotypical, victimized, underage male.

We all that's bullcrap.

I'd say the underage male had a girlfriend who didn't like competition and called in some muscle. :-)

You are so right. The two "assaults" are more different than they are alike. The boy needs to .......... well you know.

[They said they believe he was abused because he "wasn't mature enough to make a decision" in the matter. ]

If he wasn't mature enough, he shouldn't have been granted the privilege of owning and driving a car either. Also, in some states he would been able to marry at that age.

I'm not condoning the actions of the woman, in this case, but to imply that the young man is going to suffer some kind of trauma because of it, is not dealing with reality. The parents outrage smacks of monetary benefit from a lawsuit and nothing more.

I expect to see much more of this in response for all sorts of criminal acts. As people begin to lose faith in the legal system, they will simply fail to consider it part of the process of justice. Vigilantism will begin to supercede government involvement, as no one injured in a given situation will trust the government to enforce the law. As such movements grow, entire communities will fracture between those who abide by local law, and those who enforce private law. Just a historical pattern that goes a long way towards ensuring justice is served, one way or another.
